Default War Pig's new DD90

I've always loved Rovers and the D90 is one of my favorites. I've decided that it's time to start my new Class 2 rig for the 2013 season. I'm going to settle in and just build a fun rig this year, not going to worry so much about performance. This is going to be a full bodied rig (not pinched or narrowed) and is going to be big and sexy, hence the DD90 name.

Specs:

D90 hardbody
SCX10 chassis with flat delrin skid
RC4WD 2-speed trans
Tekin Pro4 brushless
Tekin RS Pro ESC
Built Axial axles with XR mod and underdrive front
Futaba 9157 steering servo
Hitec 7955 servo winch with War Pig aluminum spool
RC4WD King shocks
Air bumpstops
Vanquish OMF beadlocks
Pitbull Rock Beast tires
Full interior with cage
Full LED lights (headlights,rocklights,taillights)
Lots of tube work

Found this body used from a local guy and started chopping.

Next is the choice for the frame. I thought about building a chassis from scratch, but why? The SCX10 chassis is just so easy! Brazed on some plates to box the c-channel rails so I can bolt on a flat delrin skid.

I decided to use the new RC4WD 2-speed Wraith/SCX transmission. With Pro4 power it should be the best of both worlds.....slow crawling or 25mph blasts through the desert! Looks right at home on that fancy skid.

Here you can get a good feel for what the rig will look like once the body is mounted.

Full sized D90's are one of my wife's favorite vehicles ever.... Tell me that's not a perfect excuse to get one! Too bad the full sized ones are $$$ if they are nice.

Looking forward to seeing this project through.

You and the Ds.... I think we are seeing a tread here.

Love the start Tim, always loved Defender Bodied rigs. Just like FJs they seem so much beefier than Jeeps right from the start.
Can't wait to see more.

It'll have a custom interior just like the real thing. I'll make seats like the jump seats in back and build a full cage. Should be pretty cool.

In this picture it's at 12". I'm probably going to stretch it out to 12 1/4" or a bit more. It's more like a 1/9th scale body...it's pretty big.

Yeah, I'm pretty mellow with the throttle. It will be built to withstand the Pro4 if i decide to wring it out a little.

subscribed, will follow closely as I am going to start my Axial/Defender kit. love the idea of a 2 speed tranny, mine will be more or less a camel trophy truck. already got the paint. big issue will be switching to left hand drive if I feel REALLY adventurous. still collecting parts like the rack. need lots of lights etc.

Are you using the axial axles just for reliability? Toyota axles or at least k44's look great under that body. Way more scale. I think the axial axles will take away from the coolness and the scale appearance of it. That's just my opinion though im sure this will be a great build like yours usually are.

I'd be a little worried about K44 or Toyota axles with the Pro4 and 2 speed

Yeah that's what i was thinking. Have you seen any of the videos of the d110 from ray Wallace on You Tube? That's a nice looking rig.

Mmmmm, new wheels from Vanquish! So badass! In my eyes, the best looking wheel ever made! Not particularly fun to assemble though......
