I’ll just leave this here...

Not much else to say on the subject that photos can’t, but...

D-Rat’s Cummins 4BT diesel engine with a compound turbo setup is ready to hit the rocks (at least until I decide to add more to it!).

Glad to be entertaining, this build is helping keep my sanity, and sometimes lose it...

In between coats of paint being applied to the body of D-Rat, I mostly finished the interior and a few scale pieces to go with; a rather dirty RC Jeep with a Spektrum DX4C transmitter.

Oh, it will be used, just like Big Blue, it will get its layer of "rock patina", and yes, the scale remote and RC Jeep are from Shapeways.

Some progress on project D-Rat, I am just waiting after the last layer of clear base to cure before the fun really starts.

What you see so far on the body consists of: grey primer, an opaque coat of Auto-air Pearlized Black, about 6 coats of Auto-air Sparklescent Rock Star Red 2 mixed with 20% of clear base, then 3 coats of clear base, followed by a wet sand and a final coat of clear base.

After multiple tests, I went with Sparklescent red buffed with clear base to make it semi-opaque over the Pearlized black to get a metallic dark blood red a la Deadpool.

The Perlized has bluish tones in the flakes and the Sparklescent is straight silver, the combination of the red turned into a semi-opaque over the black turns it less orange than just straight Sparklescent red over primer or over an opaque regular black.

Next will be applying the stencils, then opaque regular black, remove the stencils, apply Auto-air transparent black to “smoke” the red and finish with a clear coat, either flat or satin.

Also, on the bench are the inner rear fenders currently primed and waiting for flat black.

Busy evening yesterday, the stencils I made were weeded and applied to the body, then the process to paint solid black started.

The plan is/was for a ghost metallic red (under the stencils) against a solid black, but after two thin and uneven coats of black, I kind of liked the look and I decided to stop there and remove the stencils...

The decision to stop and remove the stencils early was the right one.

Looks incredible.

See post #150 for the full paint description.

Getting close... Very close... I should start putting the body together tomorrow.

I still have a couple of engine bay items to finish up, the electronics and the lighting to wire up, and all the on-board scale accessories to sort out, but D-Rat should be ready soon.

I didn’t have much free time this evening to work on D-Rat, but I did assemble the front and rear bumpers, rock sliders, winch, scale engine and servo cover/radiator onto the chassis.

The sunroof glass was glued in place, I installed the rear cabinet, the spare tires and the grill with a Land Rover D90 emblem.

The interior is done, including the brake booster and the Optima red top battery.

Next is lighting, the land anchor and more scale items!

Almost... just a bit more...

The electronics, the lighting and the body of D-Rat are finished, this includes most of the scale items, except for the G6 ones which are “highly recommended” to have.

Still to do: program the transmitter and the ESC, fix the toe angle of the front tires, adjust the suspension, make the G6 scale items and fabricate a land anchor out of spring steel rod.
