Default Toyota 4Runner Crawler

I've always loved Toyota based Crawlers, and I've been wanting to build another that WASN'T a Bruiser/Hilux. I've seen a few SAS Toyota 4 Runners on here, E-bay, and other crawler sites that look SICK, but they are rarely for sale, or SUPER expensive if they are, and I've always passed on owning one.....until I saw this one

I've ALWAYS loved this truck from the first time I saw it on here, and I remember seeing it for sale on here a LONG time ago, but originally missed the chance to buy it.. Then more recently, It came up a 2nd time for sale, and this time I just HAD to have it.

I NOW believe I'm the 5th or 6th owner of this rig. I know that 1BadJeepBruiser built the original truck and exo, and I also know Its since been Crawling and Wheelin' over in Hawaii, ( and other various places..,) Other builders, and owners- feel free to chime in as to where this things been..!! - Now Its found its way into MY hands..!!

Here are the Specs...

* Original Kyosho Frame and 4Runner Body
* Custom Exocage (by 1BJB)
* Locked TLT axles ( for now)
* 55 Turn Integy Lathe motor
* Axial Transmission
* Frame mounted Hitech steering servo
* King Blackfoot stub shafts
* Custom 4 Links
* 2.2" RC4WD Mud Slingers on Black HPI WK rims

When It arrived to me, it was in Rough shape, and needed a complete re-build.., SO I tore the whole thing down, cleaned, rebuilt, re-lubed and replaced, everything that needed it..!! I am still planning on doing more to this truck, but heres where It stands for now....Enjoy..!

Heres where I started....not Bad, but not Good enough..

The frame is in good shape for its age, but needed a good cleaning, and the electronics needed to be moved from where they're pictured now.

Next step was to remove both axles - clean, and rebuild them from ground zero..clean and re-mount the Axial tranny, then I changed the suspension around a little bit, from where it had been

The body is in Rough shape with various cracks and pieces of lexan missing, but considering how expensive and rare a good used one or a NIB one is ( IF you can find one..) I had to salvage this one, and fix it any way I could. This truck IS getting driven, so I'm not too worried about scratches, but there were a few spots where the Orange paint was flaking off which I fixed. Next step was to remove the roof rack, for a scuff down, and re-paint. Then I added 5 Lights in the custom cagework. I also repainted the Hi-Lift jack as well.

The body has been painted on the outside, but the windshield had some wierd scuffs on it that looked like crap, so It had to be repainted..

The infamous "poser" shot

Actually the articulations not too bad for a scaler

SO after 2 solid days of working on this thing rebuilding it, and detailing it, heres where it stands..

Let me know what you guys think..!

Nice job on fixing it up Chris, good to see that truck is still alive and being wheeled. Looks like the exo is holding up well, not bad considering it was my 1st time brazing anything

Proper Job
Another fine looking Yota just needs an interior now

Looks good with the 2.2 wheels and tyres, i'm not usually a fan of 2.2's but i suppose cos that body is close to 1.9 you really need them under it.

Thanks Mike, Yeah She's still alive and well, and Is going to get wheeled.. Your Exo is holding up well. Theres one small spot in the rear that looks like its been repaired at one point, but thats it.. So, yeah for your first time Brazing, you did a hell of a job man..! This things got PLENTY of life left in it.. You'll see..!

Thanks Neil - Well- This ones not getting the interior treatment.., the lexan bodys just TOO fragile for that :-( ( mabey the NEXT 4Runner will get it instead..!! ) I tried a set of 1.9" Trail Dr. XL's on this truck, but they just looked too small, and then tried a set of 2.2" Rock Crushers, and those were too big.., the 2.2" Mud Slingers are the PERFECT look for this truck..!

I agree with the 2.2 slingers bro! I tried 1.9 and 2.2 crushers and they didn't look right to me.

pics of mine trying the slingers and geolanders.

Wow, nice job! I Really like what you've done with this truck , it looks real sharp on those rims and tires. Just wondring What rims you are running there? , they look really scale I've never seen them before , they almost look like the stock axial 1.9s but much nicer

Cheers,
