It was 3 seconds, and that was too slow! ;)

Yeah, the idea behind this build is to have something more competitive for rocks AND TTC type events. Just a slight evolution from the Dorkstar Jeep/Chevy, which worked really well!

No updates this weekend, It's too nice out and there are weeds to pull.

I have faith in the Hardened steel axial gears... Although I think the slipper might get loosened a bit just to be safe. ;) Might need aluminum axle housings though...

Made some good progress yesterday!

The body is an Axial Dingo:

Starting the fenders:

I wanted a simple bumper- no big stinger to bend when it crashes hard! The fairlead will go in the skid:

a little chassis reinforcement:

Rock sliders:

coming along:

The hoop.

I was planning to put the 2 batteries in the rear, but it now looks like I can fit one on each slider for better COG. If I need to use a bigger single battery, it'll go back here. The cover is from a Bruder toy.

One of the hard parts if figuring out how to have the body removable while still having a rigid cage. I'm going with the 'bolt-through' design. We'll see if it's strong enough given this trucks potential speed.

The end:

More work today, stay tuned.

Thanks,
ryan

Looks great!

Do the axial axles and summit tranny use the same sized out puts? I've been wanting to run the 2 speed tranny in my axial.

No, you need the option MIP 6mm output to use with the Axial C-drives to mate to the summit tranny. The part number is 8137.

I believe what you see is where the top of the cage will bolt to the bottom of the cage and sandwich the body in between.

Sickidy doo-dah Ryan, I really like the look of both the front and rear tube work.

Other option is to run Wheely King pinion gears and outputs on the axle side. They're 6mm and allow you to run Maxx shafts and yokes.

Looks good so far Ryan. If it wasn't for the rear part of the rails, I'd say it almost looked like a truggy . Are you planning on making some steel shock mount points so the plastic ones don't snap on the first hard landing?

Threadjack on...

Alternativly you can use the hpi nitro mt 2 hardened steel gear set if you need the extra durability

Threadjack off....

Looks like another great build Ryan, keep on it
