I was out at KOH yesterday giving the ULTRA4 rig a shakedown run before all the madness started this weekend. So over to "Chocolate Thunder" I headed!

I won't post too many cuz I already post some in another thread.

Sweet rig, especially the FJ design influence! Looking forward to more on this and other KOH builds. Just by chance I checked out the 1:1 ultra4 website - AND - there is an event at an off road park in IN, about a 3hr cruise for me. That should be awesome!

Cheers,
Doc

Default Re: Axlsnapr's SDF U4RC 2.2T rig! *UPDATE*

Well after the Summer Series was done and before heading full swing into the U4RC Winter Series, it was time to refresh the rig.

Here are some of the details of the update:

I have made a few changes to make the rig more competitive in the U4RC 2.2 Trophy Class. I have switched back to servo on axle from chassis mounted. To help eliminate bump steer and increase overall steering performance. I have also put the SDF rig on a diet. I have removed my servo winch, and lightened the chassis throughout. I am currently running a 2s 18.5 Novak Goat system with 32 pitch gearing, on an Axial SCX10 trans, and tmaxx drivelines

This is the chassis after lightening, boat siding, and a fresh coat of aluminum paint.

And this is all the parts. I gotta decide on which parts are going back on. The narrowed Jeep front clip will be part of the update. Used to be an FJ, but that clip got worked over in the last series!

I've been thinking about U4RC for awhile now. And this is one of my favorites.

You have an uncanny knack for taking pictures that makes this thing look like a full size truck

Here's an update. Just a couple pics from the rebuild as I put finish and stickers on the rig. I have morphed the rig and sacrificed a lil bit of "scaleness" to try and stay competitive in the quickly growing, 2.2 Trophy Class here in the SoCal U4RC Series.

Front view, looking mean!

All stickered up and ready for action!..

I got hooked up on the chassis. SDF is really making any more I believe. There are two local SOCAL guys building chassis that I can vouch for that are sweet. "Mattzilla" and other locals are putting out some great chassis. As far as price, (don't quote me) I think they are in the $250-$300 range. PM either one of them and they should get back to you asap. Hope this helps, and thank you for the props on the rig!

Well U4RC is heading into our third season here locally and I figured it's time for a update or 2 to the old SDF rig.

* First the addition of some color to the paint scheme to purty her up.

* Second update was switching from the OG RC4WD Aluminum Beadlocks to plastic rims in the form of Axial 8 Shooters with orange rings. The plastic rims are to keep the unsprung axle weight down as much as possible. It slows the wear and tear on the driveline components. And helps the shocks control axle movement easier.

* Third upgrade swapping in an 3100Kv 1/8th scale motor. Easily pushes the heavy Trophy rig around the fast track portions and still has the grunt for the rock sections.

If I don't switch to an entirely new chassis I will be addressing some needed link geometry and shocks mounting changes in the near future.

Sweet, but I liked the FJ body better. Overall nice build.
