Found a cool pile of boulders down by the river near my house this morning. Managed to get a little video with my phone. I love playing around on rocks like this, transitioning from one to another, much easier with a comp rig than with this beast. Missed it on the first attempt but got the second one. Very slippery river rock, good thing for wheel speed Oh yeah, have a 13.5 turn Tekin redline in now, sooooo much smoother than the pro4. Not sure if this is prudent video posting but oh well.... Thought I would post up an update on this old rig. I have been working on it a bit getting it all fixed up from last years thrash testing. The metal body was toast so I have Sir Metal Masher building a new one...or two. The truck took a nasty fall off a cliff and rear of the chassis took some big time damage. I straighten it out to where it should be good enough and sand blasted it a bit to get it ready for paint. Finally got some new bushings for the 300 HDs thanks to Jeepindoug Rebuilt the tranny with a Locked up RC slipper eliminator, new spur and bearings, hot racing metal gears and new housing. Oh yeah and a shiny new motor too, really like it so far. Even got some nice new tires, the smaller swampers since I sold my shaved up ones with my yeti. One more thing too. The front axle was so worn down it had a big gap between the diff cover and the front lip so I sanded and filed it down and added in a little piece of 18 ga that extends to the diff cover, should be good to go for a couple more years I hope. Great rig. Love a used rig and the history behind it. Makes if much more personal.

Looking good Sam! i like the upgrades. Do you have any shots of the body as it sits now? I'd love to see how mangled up it is! |

Thanks. Sadly enough I don't. Wasn't thinking clearly I guess when I was tearing it all down that day, was more upset with all the chassis damage I guess. Should of took some pics. Well, with the next body I will be sure to do so, even at the bitter end of its usable life

Thanks! I was thinking I would. I may clear coat it so it doesn't get water and mud stains like raw, soft aluminum can get. Quote:
Guido's rebuild is lookin good btw. You are going to love that motor you just picked up.

Thanks Sam. I think the 4 pole motors are just too hard on parts, especially in a heavy rig like Guido. I got tired of eating rear pinion bearings on every run. It jeapordized the reliability I need for TTC and G6. I ran a 2 pole Trailmaster in Oklahoma a couple years ago and it was good. I think with the smaller tires the torque of the 2 pole will be just right!

Sam I've had several aluminum bodied rigs and one thing I found to work really well to strengthen them a bit was to back the body with Shoe Goo in the areas that see the most damage like corners and fenders. I also Shoe Goo'd in thin sheet styrene or aluminum in the door skins, hood and roof. It still dents real nice but not as badly and it is less likely to tear. Just a thought if you want this one to last a few more comps then the last. |
