Default gdb attempts an Ultra 4

Been a few years since I had a 2.2 rig. I'm not too crazy about Class 3 scale trucks but , all the recent Ultra 4 rigs have got me intrigued. So I've been watching the for sale section and picked up a couple things to get this under way. I'm not sure what I'll do with it when it's complete since there is no Ultra 4 racing in Western Pa and nobody else locally has one but like I said I like these things and I think their pretty darn cool. Here's what I got so far...

I reallocated my SS Bombproof tranny from my Tundra Truggy build to this rig where it will probably be needed more ...

A week or so ago Wheels7 put up his personal chassis and I was lucky enough to get it. If you're not familiar with his work, it's nothing short of awesome...

About the same time as the chassis was available I was able to get my hands on a set of Wraith Curries...

That's it for now. The power plant will be an RX-8 and the new Pro 4 HD 3000kv motor. A 7954 will handle the steering, links & shocks I'm undecided on as of yet.

The wheels I want, Method 105 all silver have been out of stock at VP for quite sometime. I hope they restock soon, I don't want to settle for something else. Patience is not a virtue I possess, lol.

Well I got a few more things rounded up for this rig.

I couldn't wait any longer for the all silver Method 105's so I got all black. Picked up some BFG's w/Dueces Wild foams from CI. Electronics came in, got some Ti links from VP. I think I'm going to run trailing arms on the rear.

I mocked it up because I'm a little anxious about it, still waiting on some things. You Ultra 4 racers my skid height is 2 5/8", am I in the ball park or are ya running a little closer to the ground for LCG??

Very sweet build , looking forward to seeing the finished product.
If you are thinking of using Vanquish Twin Hammers trailing arms with your King shocks get these...
King Off-Road Short Course Racing Shocks Replacement Bottom Ball End
The original shock end isnt long enough and the retainer will rub on the arm.

I was actually getting a set of Wraith trailing arms from Blue Monkey.

I wasn't sure the Twin Hammers would be long enough.

Thanks for the heads up, I may still need them.

Well parts are rolling in and I had some time to bolt them on.

Blue Monkey Trailing Arms, MIP's, 100mm Kings on the rear and 110mm on the front.

I'm also going from the standard Wraith knuckle/chubs and 1/4" steering links to (later tonight) the Wraith Scale chubs/knuckles and 3/16 steering links. I'm getting closer...

Scale chubs & knuckles mounted, these things are pretty sweet.

I'm a firm believer in flat lower links.

Well this thing took a little different turn than what I set out to do.

My "I see, I like, I buy" personality got me a really cool & expensive rig, lol.

There's no Ultra4 racing in Western Pa. Who am I kidding? I didn't need this thing. Nobody else locally will build one so it will just sit like my Rally cars did. Haha, but I had to have it, so I'm keeping it.

I put a MMP in there instead of that giant RX8 (not much room in these things) and swapped the HD 3000kv for an HD 1850 kv which is 4s capable for wheel speed if I need it plus it will crawl just fine because it's probably a Class 3/trail rig now.

The trailing arms didn't work out, the bottom of the shock was leaning more forward than the top and I only have one spot to mount the top of the shock to so I went back to the Ti links and 110mm Kings.

Also went with some Hitmans and RockBeast II. It narrowed the track width and the Pit's are better trail/crawling tire than the BFG's.

I made an HPI Apache cockpit fit to cover the electronics.

Tried my hand at an aluminum roof panel...

Then I got tired of taking pic's after a little progress here & there. So I took some of the 95% finished rig. The body panels came with the chassis from Wheels7 so I'm using them, they fit nice. I'll probably repaint on the outside just to give it my own flavor...

LOL, yeah right!

I'll prolly give it a whirl just to see how it performs but it's like the proverbial "bringin' a knife to a gun fight", lol.

How is that pro4 hd on 4s? I'm building a C3/trail truck and thought about the same combo. Sweet truck!

I only had it in the rig for a very short time, 2 packs less than 45 min. on 3s.

I parted the rig out and kept that system for my Yeti and it will be ran on 4s. It has some real nice torque and the sensored part helps low speed control. The 4s will help make up the wheel speed.
