Default homemade driveshaft dig build with pics and vids

well I got around today to finishing my driveshaft dig unit.

I used plumbing supplies(nice and light 8-))

Work great! and I LOVE IT!!!

VIEW MY VIDS:

http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-2414477902695954526&hl=en-CA
http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=3858726708835364555&hl=en-CA

OLD DRIVESHAFT

START OF NEW ONE WITH 3 1/2" FRAMING NAIL WITH HEAD CUT OFF TO KEEP MALE ENDS STRAIGHT TO EACH OTHER

USED 1/2" PLUMBING PLASTIC TUBE AND 2 VALVE SEATS

NOTCHED OUT A 6 SIDE STAR TO ALLOW LOCKED DIG

FREE WHEEL

4WD

LOCKED REAR

MOUNTED SERVO WITH STOCK SERVO MOUNT TURNED SIDEWAYS WITH SPACER UNDERNEATH TO GIVE A LITTLE LIFT FOR THE LINK TO THE SERVO.

UNDERSIDE

So all it cost me was 3$ for the two valve seats, 3$ for a foot of plumbing tube, had a spare servo, 5$ for two sets of driveshafts and some time.

:smile::smile:

Nice dig! i especially like the 3 link piece to stabilize. I used a fin up through a piece of lexan on the upper links. Wish I would have thought of this!
I built a very similar dig and the only prob I had was the notched brass piece twisting in and out from binds and revers digs. A tiny screw almost through it and the collar, or some CA and it's golden!
Just in case ,at comps I brought a spare precut tube in case it stripped.

Using the y link thingy is a really good idea to keep it from trying to spin on you. With your linkage coming in at that angle, is it still pretty smoth to engage and disengage?

How about the y link... does it interfere with your links during flex?

I used plastic plumbing for the tube (1/2"), they use this stuff for all new home. I have it for my toilet, sinks, dishwasher. easy to find at hardwear stores. And the little end screws are called valve seats. Found them at hardwear store next to the washing mashines supplies.

Ya the Y link woks great, and most important it stops the spinning of the plumbing tube. SUPER SMOOTH!!!

NO! not at all.

in your vid, it sounded like the servo was buzzing the whole time. Check your end points. You can burn up a servo pretty quick.... or strip the gears.

Wow, I'm liking this idea, when I convert my AX10 to a scaler, I'll have to think about this if I decide to make it act like has a real part time transfer case in it!
