Based off this picture I just don't see that happening. My not so clever mind can's see a typical shock and link setup with this. A torsion type chassis like the Dna's SSS mrc protoype, looks like it would work though.

Nice Job am4x4 on the use of stock parts with just some bolt on adjustment plates, also I like your parallel steering linkage.

This is what I am going to try to make work, the pictures are only crude mock ups but I am pretty sure I can make it work with out bind or interference problems.

I too have tried to design a BTA set-up and ran into major clearance issues with the little bracket that fits around the pinion and supports the upper link and servo bracket. I see you have left it off, and your servo bracket is supported by only two plastic posts above the pumpkin. Do you think they are strong enough and rigid enough? I would be a little concerned myself.

I also see those wideners between the axle housing and the 'C's. That looks like it will keep the tires off the links and springs, and give clearance for the steering arms and lower link mounting tabs, but what is the track width now? Looks like about 11 1/2" or so? Did you make your own longer half shafts for that?

Just looks like a lot of change and compromise to get a BTA linkage in there.

Cheers.

We seem to have gotten a bit off topic here (Ackerman to BTA), sorry am4x4.
See this post for more info on this project http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showt...79#post1715379

And yes the axles are modified Wheely King's.

No sweat, you seem to have some pretty inovative ideas for getting around some of the issues with BTA. Good idea on the lower shock mounts.

I am kinda new at all of this but what front shafts will take 45deg. My stock ones maxed at around 32deg

I am not sure about any after market units.
What I did was modified some Wheely King axles (they have a larger ball on the end, smaller throat, longer overall length and a smaller pin) and I shortend the stub axle cup (stock AX10) and reground the inner angle to 45 degrees.

Axle specs.

stock AX10
1. length-77mm
2. ball end-5.77mm
3. throat-3.4mm
4. pin- 2.5mm

Wheely King
1. length- 84.6mm
2. ball end- 6.2mm
3. throat- 3.1mm
4. pin- 2mm

mod axle
1. length-94mm
2. ball end-6.2mm
3. throat- 3.1mm
4. pin- 2.5mm

MKDU2, nice work on the axle shafts. Any comments on the wideners?

am4x4, also sorry if this is getting off your topic but I also would love a good BTA set-up and more steering angle.

Cheers.

Aftermarket shafts include:
Axial cvd's-1.5mm cross pin
3racing-2.0mm cross pin
RC4WD-not quite out yet, pin size unknown, supposed to be beefy
All those axles will do 45 degrees. I have modded 3Racing axles to use 3/32" pins(2.36mm) I have 2.5mm pins on order to try also.

Thanks Terranaut.
What info are you interested in on the wideners?
There is a bit more info on the build thread here, Project Rock Beetle: AX10 comp build

i'm planning to buy the venom creeper. I need it for my robotics project, so it has to be very maneuverable. Is it possible to buy another front axle and mount it on the rear, so i would have 4 wheel steering? please reply!

Maybe you should check out the venom creeper section of the forum. More likely to get a response there. IMO a ax-10 would be the better option as the kit one already hads provisions for rear steer. As far as turning while moving forward, a dig is by far the best option. When properly setup it'll turn on the inside rear tire.

All well and good but we don't use differentials so a crawler tends to push like crazy with any setup

Which is why you need as much steering angle as possible.

MKDU2, I'm curious about the spacer between the end of the axle housing and the 'C'. Did you lengthen the axle housing?
