| just picked up an original scorpion
Pretty much bone stock traded another rc for it that I have been neglecting. Wont waste time with showing pics of it since its a well known truck yet. But I have plans for it oh yes BIG plans.

Ok so more on my truck. I didnt get the original radio system in it but its because I kept my associated 2.4ghz set up. So I took 5 minutes to put it in and had to reverse the motor wires and got to wheeling. Had some fun running over curbs and stuff. This thing is a blast. But room for improvement. First the AE-1 speed control has to go to make room for an AE-2. Second the AS-2 servo seems to lack in strength. So need a new higher torq servo. Man I wish I kept the one out of my tmaxx Third need some alloy links all around. On top of all this I am planning to build yet another scaler out of this truck. But idont know might make a full blown comp rig out of it. Tomorrow im taking it to a good rough dry creek bed and get her on the rocks. I will take pics. On a side note this is my first running crawler besides my losi micro crawler. Has anyone else got their first crawler and yanked back on the trigger thinking more like a racer and thinking what the heck? just for a split second when the rig starts rolling instead of tearing off across the yard then remembering duh its a crawler? I admit it I did. So far I love this thing though. Last edited by slim_chance; 12-23-2012 at 09:11 PM. |

So got her on the rocks today. Went to a local park that has a semi dry creek. I had a blast until shortly in to it I only had front wheel drive. Turns out the set screw in the rear driveshaft was loose and dropped the driveshaft. And I didnt bring tools. Oh well next time. I did get pics though |

WOW, look at how unscratched those beadlock rings are. I'd say that things seen light use. Is the front diff already locked? Best thing you can do to those stupid 3mm setscrews is remove them and replace with 3x5mm or 3x6 buttonhead bolts. |

i started with one of the original scorpions as well... but mine aint stock anymore...... some suggestions on upgrades... -new servo- hitec 7955TG... i love mine -wheels and tires- because i fun comp with my rig i went with the hot bodies sedona's -weight the wheels - 4 link the rear - depending on battery your running if its small enough velcro it to the back of the servo - cut the fender flares off - another good upgrade is open up the transmission and replace the outputs shafts(what the driveshafts connect to) with the robinson racing steel gear the scorpion is a good rig to start off with... Im doing a couple of temporary upgrades until I get the gear I want. I am putting in a older xl5 esc and a sterring servo from a vxl stampede. Also I got an larger set of wheels and tires when I got my mini crawler that I am going to try out. They are slightly larger than the stock set and noticeably heavier with recessed beadlock bolts. |

| Re: just picked up an original scorpion not really sure. Im still learning about crawlers. On another note so far my bolt on mods work. I seem to have more wheel speed with the xl5. Steering is more responsive and turns sharper with the traxxas servo. Not really sure how long the servo will last. Also I get more flex naturally with the heavier wheels and tires.kind of a duh. But now I got a good bit of body rub when turning and flexing at the same time. I might be chopping the fenders off this body or my hpi baja bug body I have laying around.

Nice! This should be old enough now to start a "vintage class" |
