| Noon with ax10 deadbolt...upgrades?
I am a complete noob to RC... I picked up my deadbolt on monday from my LHS. This thing is amazing... I am wanting to start upgrading but need a little guidance...as of now this will not be a comp rig more so just hitting trails and crawling when i find a good spot....Boy The dollars are adding up fast, so far I have close to 700 invested ... I have pick up. 2 onyx 5700mah lipos and a onyx charger, alum link set, rockster beadlocks (undecided on tires), axial bender 4 link plate, axial 61-90 alum shock set 7mm piston and a servo wire extender to move the battery tray up front... How does this sound so far? Im really just flying blind here guys... what other mods would you recommend for improvement on trails and crawling? Sent from my ADR3010 using Tapatalk 2 |

Check out some of Benders builds: Search Results - RCCrawler.com There are a lot of cheap upgrades that work well. There is a crawler version and a basher. Take a look at mine to. |

Sounds like a great start. I would reccomend some aluminum chubs and knuckles and some universal axles shafts in the front. For tires I'd recommend some HB sedonas. That's what I had on my crest and loved them still have them lurking around in case I do a 2.2 build next.

I would go with universals up front, wait til you break the knuckles and c hubs before you change, they are pretty strong. a slightly better servo, something in the range of 250oz and a BEC so you can tune your esc a bit and run full power on the servo. maybe aluminum steering links also. that's pretty much what i have and use it to crawl for fun in my backyard, works great.

Also when you get a new servo I suggest a metal clamping servo horn. The splines in the stock plastic one strip out easy especially when you replace the servo and get new tires.

hey guys thanks for all the replies! I just caught this... will the 7mm 61-90mm alum shocks work on my rig? looks like they were intended for a scx10... they only measure 3.5" compared to 4" that my stockers measure...what gains would i see off this? or should I just return them?

I run GMade Zero's at 103mm. There have been performing very well. Great articulation but not to much Last edited by Norton; 11-27-2013 at 01:24 AM. |

I have already flipped the shock mounts and moved the battery up front... being that these shocks are 1/2" shorter, given the upgrades I have already done do you guys think it woulld be helpful to install these shocks?? |

That's really gonna be up to you. Personally I bought some Proline shocks that were shorter like you did and was kinda on the fence if I liked them. Since then they're on my scx truck. They will lower the rig and won't have as much articulation then the longer ones but I liked it cuz it actually posed somewhat of a challenge for crawling. Its really gonna be your call if you like them or not. Run them a lil bit see what you think how you feel and if it turns out you don't like them put them up for trade in the classifieds and see if you can get some longer ones.

I'm in the same boat, I bought a deadbolt about a month ago and have about the same money into mine, doesn't help when CKRC is my hometown shop and the RC crawler community is so close here. A good inexpensive upgrade that made my truck a whole different rig for the better of course was the BPC CHASSIS battery forward tray, I believe it was around 15 bucks. Overdrive gears in the front was a great upgrade as well.

Hi, I did Benders complete stage one mods to mine and added a stage one wraith kit from VP ( VERY STRONG!! ) I also have top cad rims ( wont do that again, the screws for the beadlocks are VERY VERY weak ) I also changed the servo for a blue bird ( its dying too, I am not buying any cheap stuff anymore, it just dont last save spend the cash for GOOD stuff) for tires I have panther leopards and rc4wd mud slingers and rock stompers ( I like the panthers best for my area ) and I have my esc and rec in a plastic box, and just put some xr10 shocks with a 90mm droop setup they work GREAT!!! Just try to see what people are using in your area and of course the stuff that works the best ( just remmber EVERYBODY has a different driving style so something that works for them might not work for you!!!) And of course HAVE FUN!!!! Last edited by Phatz; 08-03-2014 at 01:36 AM. |

I do trail runs, G6s and crawl just about anywhere I see rocks on my way home from work. Out of all my mods, the three that made the most impact to me were the Savox Servo, G Made Zeros, and weighting the wheels. Other Mods that I consider successful Bender Stage One 27t motor with 14t pinion |

I would recommend the steel gear set for your transmission as mine didn't last very long and possibly the steel driveshafts as mine twisted.
