Default Want to convert old AX10 to Deadbolt; what do I need to change?

Hi all. I have an AX10 that is very original, and I'd like to change the suspension and body mounts to be more like a Deadbolt, as I like the Deadbolt but I don't want to drop $300 on a new rig and I have too many RC cars as it is. Can I keep the original chassis and axles and swap out the suspension arms, or do I need to also swap out the axles as well? I'd also like to swap out the body to the Deadbolt or something similar. Will the Deadbolt body posts mount up to the original AX10 chassis? This isn't going to be a comp crawler, but something I can bash with the kids on the acreage around our house.

Many thanks,
Angelo

if I'm not mistaken, the old ax10 uses scx10 axles, whereas the deadbolt and ridgecrest use wraith axles

Get a deadbolt body and mock it up....see how it works with the current chassis. Make it work! You'll be the first that, I know of, to do it.

mike flea is right, the axles are not as wide the chassis is different also. Nothing prevents you from making the deadbolt body fit on your ax10 though. As for wanting the drivetrain, i believe pretty much everything is different from both vehicles.

You can definetly put the body on the old AX10, but the towers wont work off the the Deadbolt. Im sure you could create something to work for vertical body posts insted of horizontal.

By the time you invest in all the parts...if possible, You might as well buy a deadbolt RTR
Honeslty, dell your ax10 gen1 and get a deadbolt....that's the best thing to do.

There is so many differences that you'd be better off selling your AX10 for say $150 and getting a $300 Deadbolt. You'd literally be time and money ahead.

I agree that you should sell the AX10 and buy a deadbolt. By the time you round up the parts to build you'll be over what it costs to buy as a RTR. If you choose to go costly route check e-bay and RPP hobby salvage yard.

The only thing that is the same on the ax10 scorpion and the ax10 ridgecrest/deadbolt is the transmission. So your best bet is just selling the original ax10 and buying a new one.

As stated trans is the only thing the scorpion shares with the deadbolt. Easiest way to make a deadbolt is to buy a deadbolt.
That being said there is nothing wrong with the scorpion with easy to buy or build mods it can hang easily with a deadbolt. I have a scorpion and my oldest daughter has a deadbolt and stock to stock they both need help. But my modified scorpion kicks her truck's butt in general crawling. The main place hers is better is handling at higher speeds than mine because the wider wheel track.

Now mods to make a simular truck would be links, axles scx10 outputs for the trans, and wild boar shafts. Then you would have the same drive train and you would either have to make longer body side mounts or make top body mounts. You would be still stuck with the scorpion chassis.
