Default So I decided to build a crawler...

And here is another boring build thread.

I'm sure we have all seen the eBay chop shop rolling chassis, well I decided to spring for one. It was brand new and so were all the parts I ordered to complete it. I wanted to see just how much it would cost to build it to exactly my specs. All parts were purchased off eBay, and I will post up a price list at the end.

In this box is everything I need:

I started with the wheels and tires. Gmade wheels and RC4WD Rock crusher 2 tires. They went together very easily. Gmade in their infinite wisdom gives you 2 long screws so you can start to get the halves together, and this worked great.

Voila!

I chose a brand new Axial ax10 chassis, no particular reason other than I don't currently own one. I have a few scx10's, but the ax10 was new to me. Here is how I recieved it:

And here she is all linked up with HotRacing links, the electronics tray and battery tray are missing due to being swapped:

I also installed a set of AMF diff protectors:

Then it was on to the electronics, I chose a Savox 321 waterproof servo, an Atomik 55t crawler motor, and an Axial AE5 esc. After that is was time for the mock up with the Parma 67 ford F100 body:

After marking and drilling the holes, and some Duratrax competition orange paint, with a little Tamiya black for the bed cover and rear bumper, I was done!

And the obligatory "flex" shots:

I had to lose the front bumper and a little of the front fenders for tire clearance, but that was all. I was really disappointed with the parma body. The body itself was ok (really lacked detail), but the window masks fit poorly and required trimming. The decals that came with the body were the biggest loser, they were horrible. They were poorly printed and grainy, and there was no "ford" for the tailgate.

So, what did it cost?

All prices include shipping:

Chassis- $154.99
Servo- $43.95
Esc- $39.99
Link kit- $63.88
Body- $25.82
Motor- $19.94
Tires- $49.98
Wheels- $28.18
Diff covers- $27.00

All for a grand total of $453.73. I may have left out a few little things that I didn't order specifically for this build and were in my parts box, like a receiver, paint, wheel weights, a servo wire extension (necessary!) and an aluminum servo horn.

Could it be done cheaper? Yes. But again, I got exactly what I wanted, exactly how I wanted it. Now onto that wraith chassis I bought...

Yup. And they are a bit on the stiff side. I will probably get a set of axial black springs in the near future.

Very nice build. I've done a couple of my build with the help of some apple pie.
