Default Trail and proper fix...stripped a screw

Last time I ran my Bomber, I had a problem with the screw that attaches the vertical steering link to the crosslink...or whatever you call it. I could only screw it back in by hand because I didn't have any tools.

Well, today I got my 5-bit hex driver set (1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, and a Philips) and again had issues with that screw. I tightened in the field, but soon it fell out again.

Closer inspection revealed that the hole was elongated, thus preventing the screw from staying screwed in. I managed to MacGyver a fix with a elastic hair band...just long enough to drive it back.

The permanent fix was a 3mm x 25mm bolt and nut from LHWS, after drilling all the way through the crosslink. Not going to be an issue anymore.

I am perplexed why they used a course thread screw instead of a fine thread like damn near every other screw on the truck. It was destined to fail at some point.

That's pretty much how the Vanquish steering links are put together. It comes with a long bolt and nut.

The plastic steering links are meant to last long enough to figure out that they don't work. A few minutes usually.

A length of 4mm rod, a hacksaw, a 4mm die and a bag of Revo ends will make a great set of links for under $20.

Any of the aluminum aftermarket sets modeled off the plastic setup are junk, you need the drag link to run all the way to the knuckle.

Something that bugs me about RC... The nomenclature. Nobody calls them what they are, draglink and tie rod. Lol.

That screw lasted a little longer...lol But for $.83 I should be fine for quite a while.
