Default Kaetwo's SCX10 Toyota Flatbed build...

Well Pinch and I had a build-a-thong, I mean thon not long ago and Toy Flatbeds where the theme. After building it once and then completly tearing it down and building it for a second time, I've finally got the rig straight and designed the way I like it. I still have a few fine details to add too it but for the most part it's ready for paint.

This rig will be designed for competition specifically and will be the rig I run in the 2010 Montana Scale Nats as well as the 2009 Utah State Scale Championship. I wanted to build something that was scale but functional and most of the rigs that I've build lately (such as the Toy Hybreds) are more like RC models and really don't perform well at all.

Pinch and I started with the SCX10 platform and decided to bend the F@$^ out of the chassis to tweak it into a more "Toy" frame like look. The result took a good while to tweak back straight but it was well worth the effort. Of course most of you will recognize this bed from a build I did about a year ago, when I was making a Toy Flatbed modeled after Unimogers 1:1 Toy.

There is still a lot of work left to finish it off, but here is the start.

Enjoy!!!

Right on.. You Finally posted it... You always seen to be the one that beets me to it, not the other way around.

I put a link to this build in it's sister build thread. Check the Other Zachsbane Sister: Pinchflat's SCX10 "WTF am I going to build" Build.

Looks good. I'd brace the flat crossbar at the cab to the frame. If rolled hard I could see that bending and tweaking the whole thing.

Aside from that I must say "more triangulation" sorry had to do it.

Off to a killer start, your other flat bed that Nathan has is still one of my favorite to date.

I was hoping to hear from you on this build. I wanted to have you build something for me, but I just couldn't bring myself to turn my back on a project

I agree with you 100% on the reinforcement brance to the chassis and will be done for sure. I'm still not 100% on the bed height so I didnt' want to get to permanent with the installation just yet. I still have plenty of work yet but will hopfully get at it tonight

Thanks! I can't wait to see how things play out.

Tonight I plan on finishing the back end with a cross-member across the back as well as install a winch mount in the bed. I'll then add some more triagulation to the cage it self as well as adding an antennae mount, hilift jack mount and plenty more. I've even got plans for a cool set of mud flap mounts off the side of the frame rails.

Pinch and I are toying with mufflers and tail pipes as well as a stamped gas can. I'm not 100% that I'll get into that much detail but it will be fun to put on a few new things.

Thanks again guys!!!

Color color color......I have no idea

I may got pretty blah with a good red color as I have not had a lot of red rigs, but I'm not 100% on that.

Dude the exhaust isnt as bad as you might think. All you need is some 3/16 brake line, high lift muffler, 5/16 aluminum tube for a tail pipe tip

These are before I finished the muffler

If you go single exhaust all you have to do is grind down the one outlet on the muffler with a dremel and then I hit with some testors aluminum paint.

Thanks for the tip Mike. I'll get moving on the exhaust once I have the body and goodies in place

Well Pinch came over last night for an unexpected booty call, which turned into a build fest

I got some more detail added to the chassis (cross-members, supporting bars, winch mount, highlift jack mount, antannae mount, etc...) and it's shaping up nicely. I came up with a wicked cool mount for the highlift jack. It's just tow horizontal bars that hold the jack on with o-rings. It stays in place nicely and still looks clean.

I've also lowered the overall height of the bed and got the body mounted.

Next up is paint
