Some people have had bad luck with them but mine has always worked fine for me. I think they are really nice for RTR equipment.

For the most part I think they're okay. They get the job done. The only major complaint I have about them is the drag brake. I run a Novak ESC in my Dingo and that thing will stick to steep rocks where as my buddies AX-10 with an AE-2 tends to roll. It doesn't free wheel down the rock fast. It is a slow roll, but still annoying to me. My only other complaint is cost, for a stock ESC they seem to be expensive. I was going to get one, but I discovered that for about $20 more I could get my Rooster CE (maybe I shop in the wrong places though). Those are my only complaints about them, other than that I think they're great. I'd use one for sure in a pinch if I could find one cheap or used.

^^ some of the creep could be from a cheap motor..

my ax10 rtc came with the AE-2 and it worked awesome........ with the stock electronics.. swapped out the stock steering servo for my 645mg, put the stock servo in my honcho.. last month i upgraded the servo to a hitec 7955TG and the AE-2 didnt like it at all.. the internal BEC was too weak so the ESC was shutting itself down every few seconds.. it was fine if i was driving straight a little bit of turning but if i was working the servo hard it would shut down..... swapped in my novak rooster and no problems works awesome... that is my only complaint, but other than that its a good ESC. im running it in my honcho and it does just fine.

depending on its price if i was in a really big pinch i'd buy one but if i wasnt i'll stick with my novak rooster!!

i'm still running mine and have no complaints.

optiskate - i believe you can adjust the drag brake to your liking. sounds like it's just set too high. you need a Castle Link to make the changes though.

I have one in my Rally Car I got the car from the classifieds and it came with it, so I left it in there. It's not as versatile as the Sidewinder or BR-XL but it gets the job done.

Would I buy one for a crawler? Probably not. I'd spend the extra cash and get a BR-XL.

Yeah, I've read that you can adjust it with a Castle link. Certainly worth giving a shot if you already have one.

That sounds more like the motor, get the Tekin 35T or up and I guarantee that the AE-2 with that motor will stick like glue, ESC drag brakes are only as good as the motor that does not turn as freely.

You can make the drag break adjustments from your radio on the AE-2
Axial AE-2 ESC Set-up and Programming
No Castle Link needed

I dig the AE-2 I'm running.

It has been a solid esc, but definitely needs a better bec.

Also its extremely splash resistant.

Im also very happy with mine. has a decent drag brake, great low resolution and gives me the option of running Lipo. I will run it for a while before i get a new ESC that can handle more that 2S lipos. But, that i some time off.

I have several, and as long as you use it with an external BEC, it is great. It simply does not have a powerful enough internal BEC. I always use the Castle Creations 10A BEC ($21.99)

I really like it, coupled with a CCBEC running on 3 cell it works great. There has yet to be a RTR ESC that compares. I give it a 2 thumpsup!

Really like mine too, I have novak's in my two other crawlers and don't see why I need to change my Scx10's ESC as it does everything I need it to do and more.

Love the idle warning! easy to adjust via castle's user menu without the castle link. Drag brake works good when adjusted and I can't do that on my novak's at all.
