Default Slipper Clutch question

Hey all,

New to the SCX10, so I'm unfamiliar with the slipper. Anyways, after a good day of wheeling, whenever i run up to nearly any type of obstacle my slipper engages (i.e. a loud chatter and the wheels don't spin). I figured I just needed to tighten up. It's pretty damn tight right now and it's still doing it.

Is there are any known issue or trick with the axial slipper system? Does is it sound like it's an issue with something else? The truck is totally fine without a load on it.

Is it a kit or RTR?

If it's a RTR, you may want to follow the kit directions to "set" the slipper properly. You can then adjust from there. Basically, you tighten the nut on the spring all the way down and then back of some. I don't remember how much--refer to the directions. If that doesn't work, you may need to disassemble to make sure the slipper is assembled correctly with the disk material. Again, refer to the directions for the proper the steps.

If it is a kit, did you assemble the slipper per the directions, and "set" it per the directions?

It could be the slipper or the mesh between the pinion and spur gears.
You can check the slipper clutch setting by loosening the motor screws and move the motor so that the pinion gear isn't engaging the Spur gear. If you hold the tires and rotate the spur gear the slipper clutch should only slip with firm pressure. If it slips then tighten it 1/2 turn and check again.

You set the mesh between the pinion and spur gear by inserting a piece of copier paper between the pinion and spur gears. You then press the pinion towards the spur gear with moderate pressure and then tighten the motor screws down. If you can pull the paper out with moderate pressure then you have the mesh set correctly. It might take a little practice to get the feel of the correct mesh.

If it's making a really bad noise it's more than likely the gear mesh. The slipper sound isn't very loud.
