Holmes Hobbies and Brood seem to be the top 2 players in that range. Most of the guys in our club run HH but a few guys are trying out Brood now. Brushed motors are essentially waterproof. With minimal maintenance, a quality motor should run for a long time. Holmes Hobbies makes a great esc for crawling, the BR-XL. It can be ordered waterproof and is 6s capable... |

I have the Axial 55t motor and it works good for me. At about $12 it works really good. LOL

I wouldn't recommend a 55t motor in a scaler, unless you want to get there next month. If you have the RTR, which it seems you do, you have a 20t pinion on the 27t motor. A more common set-up is a 35t motor and 14t pinion (both of which will slow the Dingo). Motors will vary in price and quality. If you want to run in water get a cheap one, or do regular maintenance on the expensive ones. Water (actually things in the water) wears brushes. Have fun with it. |

Holmes Hobbies makes some good motors. 27T-35T seem to work good for trails. 55T Crawls pretty slow. I went 35T for mine and I crawl and run trail. It works great for me. It still has some slow speed control (not as much as you'd get with a 55T), but its also got some wheel speed when you need it. If its a dedicated crawler that doesn't see a whole lot of hills, mud, or anything that will require wheel speed, then you might as well go 55T. If you're going to do both then maybe a 35T would be a good compromise for you. Try and find some body else in your area that has a higher turn motor and see if you can get some time behind the remote. It would probably help you decide what you want to run.

| Re: help with scx10 dingo Wouldn't a larger pinion or smaller spur make it faster? turbocivic90 says it's too fast now. I understand the closer the spur and pinion tooth count gets, the faster it goes.

Your cheapest option would be to buy a 14T pinion. That will slow it down a bit and give it better crawlability |

Even though it's a throw away motor the stock 27T isn't a bad motor.. Mine have all been very smooth and last a while if you clean and lube the bushings and don't heat it up too much. You should gear it down.. Start with a smaller pinion.. You can go down to a 12T if need be. |

The AE-2 will serve you fine. I see really no-need to change it IMO, I'm gonna run mine till it smokes, if it ever does. It is programmable via manually or Castle-Link. I flop around on motors. Like the wheelspeed of the stock Axial 27t, but run a HH 35t from time to time too.
