I use 1/4" black poly tubing,
Slides like Delrin!
Fits right over the 8-32 rod snug.

Where do you get the poly tubing?

Yep. That is how we make our links, now... www.scalerfab.com

m4 is pretty close to 8-32. Running an 8-32 tap up into the rod end helps to start it too.

What length did you cut for each. I've been wanting to make some and from what searching I've come across is looks like 125mm for the uppers and 130mm for the lowers. Does that sound about right?

Is it just easier to use all thread than to thread a piece of rod. What's the scoop

Yeah most people just dont have a way to make threads so its just easier. Then you just put some type of sleeve over it for added strength and so the threads dont hang up on everything

Check out mcmaster-carr. I mocked up and got an estimate on links. Ordered Solid 1/4 aluminum standoffs that are threaded 3/4 in on both ends for 8-32. Picked up their 8-32 3/4 studs and I just cut off 1/4 and added revo ends and have a nice set of links that cost $40 roughly.

In all honesty aluminum links that are threaded are stronger than sleeved tubes( much thicker tubes)..I made a set with 8-32 all thread and thin wall aluminum 1/4 tubing and the tubes dent and bend very easily.

Was thinking about switching to 3/16 steel brake line as it should be much stronger.

Delrin tubing is best for allowing the links to slide over rocks I hear.

Its not hard to thread solid rod at all by hand. 3/16" rod, 10-24 or 10-32 threads. Pretap rod ends to same thread.

While its a bit more work, this way looks much more scale, are easier to make multiple bends in, and last a long time. If you use ss, rust isnt an issue either.

If you get the right rod from SK it already has a hole, all you do is tap it to 8/32 and your done!
