Default Yet another JK build

So a couple years ago I picked up a SCX10. with EVERY intention to do a killer JK build. Now that I have started making progress on it I thought I would start my build thread.

Here's what I started with. A fairly stock SCX10 with RC4WD 1.9 wheels and Rox Lox tires. I am keeping the stock axles for now. The rear axle is underdriven

Last winter I wanted to do a custom cage JK. So I enlisted the talent of Bart and asked him to build me a cage that will allow me to pop the top and blow the doors off this JK body.

He came up with this.

One of the things I have been waiting to get my hands on is the Dinky RC Split Skid (transfer case) and DR7 (gear reduction/divorced motor mount). Dinky finally released them to the general public last night so I ordered a set in aluminum. I ordered aluminum set because I wanted it to have a little more weight and to get the suspension to work like the real thing.

Side by side. Stock SCX10 transmission vs Dinky RC Split skid.

Test install

Still need to cut the input shaft and get it ready for the driveshaft.
All I need to get the Divorced Gear Reduction unit installed is a second output gear, and a RC4WD 10t pinion.

Got the split skid and GR7 installed last night. The electronics box even fits under the hood. After I got the LCA's hooked up I could not get the UCA's to line up. It just hit me that because the split skip moved the output lower, the driveshafts are now bottomed out. So to fix this I either need to make new control arms that are 1/4"- 1/2" longer, OR I need to trim the driveshafts. I'm going with option 1 for now.

Lower links are roughed in. I ran out of M4 all-thread and black delrin tube. So I need to get some on order.

I get my Delrin Tube from McMaster.com. I also use either M4 or 8-32 all thread as the core. You will have to drill out the delrin so you can slide it over the all thread.

Battery box is half done. It's large enough to hold 5 1300mAh 3s packs.

Thanks guys. I have to give BartBender props for the work he did on the cage.
I have never worked with styrene before this. This is the first time I have attempted ANYTHING like this.

Changed the firewall and sides of the dash. I also started adding some detail to the center console and got the front inner fenders done.

Spare tire mounted. With the spare tire and 4 batteries it sits just about perfect.

Got it assembled this morning. I went to the next harder spring rate on the rear shocks. Now I hope it doesn't ride like it is on marshmallows. After all it does weight in at 8.3 pounds. As you can see the tires might be a bit soft with memory foams in the front and med foam in the rear.

I need to paint another body, this one turned out like crap :(. Oh well. It gives me a body to beat on for now.
