Default Splits' SCX10

Well, this will be my first documented build. It's not gonna be completed in a weekend either...I only have so much time, so it might take a while. I still don't have everything yet, but I have enough to get started. I already sold the body because there's more than enough jeeps out there. I'll be doing the PL '73 Bronco body on this one.

Ok, let's assemble some shocks first. These are the axial icon shocks. Not bad but we'll see how they do down the road. I used Losi 25w oil and I also installed bad horsie shock covers on them so time between rebuilds is cut way down.

Next up...axles. First, trimmed the posts off the housings. Then axial HD gears 38/13's up front, 43/13 in the back. L3 4-link brackets. WP greased everything and soaked front Turnigy HD cvd's with Sullivan dry ice lube.

Love the chassis plate, is that from somewhere or custom fab? I'm going to steal this idea, but run it right to the front for CMS and servo winch, all one piece. Great build. I used to use those shock covers on my slash and stampede all the time, never thought to use them on the SCX. This is the kind of build I like to see. Metal where it's needed, but no bling.

The stock plastic shock hoops are pretty flimsy and flex easily...The braces strengthen them a considerable amount...You can buy expensive aluminum shock hoops or do the home made braces as an alternative.

If you use a Honcho body you will have to make some mods to the rear of the body to refit it to the truck..If you use a rubicon body no mods are needed to re-mount the body after the mod.

This thing will see mud and superfine sand. Running through that crap without shock covers will kill the o-rings in short order, so I'm just trying to slow it down. I'm also gonna get a pair of Outerwears motor covers, again to slow down the inevitable when running hard through the nasty shit.

The first time on tires!! Starting to look like a truck now. Still have a way to go. Waiting on a delrin cms bracket, lipo's, wire, radio shack project box, plasti-dip, Outerwears motor covers, pinion gears, front and rear bumpers, lights, and a body.

The truck looks great as a roller. I've never thought about shock covers on a scaler, Then again I never had shock covers on anything I've ran LOL. What wheels are you running?

Yeah man...bad horsie shock covers are the shit!! They actually do what they're designed to do, and are very inexpensive. Here's a link to the wheels: 6 Spoke Alloy Beadlock 1 9 Wheel Rim Set 4pcs for 1 10 1 10 RC Crawlers Cars | eBay

Got the next part in...a Matsucars RC products delrin servo mount. Very nice machine work on it. Now I just need to figure out some steering geometry to make it steer correctly and then finish waterproofing the servo.
