Default Front tires not spinning?

Hey guys. So I was just out running my SCX10 in the snow. It was doing fine for the first 5 minutes, but after that, I noticed it was having a hard time moving through the snow. I realized that only the back wheels were spinning and the fronts were not! So I brought it in, and checked again. Still the same. I spun the front wheels with my hand, and everything spins freely; the driveshaft and front wheels. BUT...the back wheels don't spin when I spin the front....theres no "tightness"....its very loose. There is no grinding noise or anything. Anyone have any idea on what it may be?

I would say t's either in the drive shafts or transmission.
Should be easy to track the problem down.

Check the front trans output/ drive shaft screw.

Pin or set screw fall out that secures the drive shaft to the trans?

Ditto the above two.

I've had the exact same thing happen to me before .

There is a small flathead screw that is inside of the driveshaft that holds on the CVD. Make sure that isn't loose; if it is, put some blue locktite on it and make sure it is snug.

Crack open the transmission and check the final drive gear and make sure the 1.5mm screws are snug. It would be a good idea to use blue locktite on those as well.

Make sure that the screw pin is still in the CVD (the screw that goes though the pinion shaft as well) and see if it is still there.

The only things I could think of is cvd/dogbone, the pinion gear inside the front diff stripped or the screw that goes to the front drive shaft fell out.

This. Screw connecting the driveshaft the to the tranny output came loose or slipped. Loosen it up, pull the shaft off, align the screw with the flat part of the output, slide on and screw it down.

+1 if something was broken in the trans the rear tires wouldnt be driven. There would be a lot of awful noise from it aswell.

Why would u post a question like this? That's gotta be the easiest thing to find out on an scx10.

My guess would probably be because he's new to the scaler/crawler stuff and didn't know... we were all just like electricrc68 at some point so cut the dude some slack. Like I've been told "you never know until you ask"... This forum is to ask question and learn. Hopefully you figured it out electricrc and got it back on the trail!

Thanks guys! I checked my drive shaft screw/pin, and it was completely gone! I guess it must have unscrewed itself when I was driving around. Luckily, I had a spare that came with the kit, so I put some locktite on it and torqued it on in. Its good as new again! Thanks again for the help!

And yes, I'm new to the scalers... Most of my RC experience is in 2wd bashers and micro planes.

I would check the set screws every other run or so. I have had mine back off 2-3 times in one day and that was with locktite on them.

If you have the problem with the driveshaft screws falling out, or backing off. Take them out one by one and wipe clean with a rag. Use blue locktite on them and wipe off the excess. Let the dry for at least 12 hours before you use.

When I was running a VXL motor the drivetrain could not take the shock and it would snap the little studs inside the driveshaft where it screwed into the yokes

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks! I'll do this today at some point. Sounds like a good idea.

Oh man, that doesn't sound too good! I'm running a brushed 20T motor. I think I'll be sticking to brushed.

I also had my drag brake set to 200% so soon as you let off the trigger it was a sudden impact. I have since swapped in a 1000kv HH motor and added MIP shafts and have zero issues now

Ive gone as far as to use red locktite on mine. Just make sure you have a cheap driver to sacrifice if you need to dissasemble them after using red. It often takes getting the driver red hot and cooking it out to make the screw come loose.

To twist off a screw inside the wb8 you had to have some weight in your tires.
I've snapped crankshafts on nitro motors running too many studs in my tires and landing with all that mass under power comming to a sudden halt.
