Default What kind of Grease to you use an axles?

I got a secondhand dingo. Took it all apart new bearings. Coated everything with marine grease. Doesn't have a ton of use. Grease is pretty much gone. Bearings are shot and the ring gear teeth are pointed. Maybe I need to fill the whole case with Grease. Thought that would cause a lot of drag. So I didn't do it the first time. Maybe try white lithium grease?? we you guys use?have a good one

Stinky & sticky!

Plenty of grease = less broken parts.

I don't even know what mine is but it's red and has little white things in it. Seems to work good!

Ive uses red and tacky and marine grease and yeah they both wash out. But it takes a few runs. But IMO its just part of the routine maintenance now. Any time mine sees any kind of extended time around a lot of water or mud i pull it down clean, clean out the housings and re grease everything.

I would have to agree to use Red N Tacky and Marine Grease. Also make sure to rebuild the axles after a long day of use.

Yes, I don't usually do lots of deep water, but grease it up don't fill it. If it's seen lots of water then a teardown and regrease is good idea.

I used white lithium on my Traxxas Slash gearbox and figured it was good enough for the SCX10 gearbox and axles as well. Not nearly going to be pulling the same RPM as the Slash!

i pack the tubes and fill the pumkin up pretty full with either green grease or the team3six stuff.

ive never had green grease wash itself out, and im not at all shy of water.

I've always wondered about installing a zerk. I just haven't had the time to research it. Let us know what you find.

I use a waterproof Belray grease that I use on my motorcycle with great success. Pack the pinion gear and keep the ring gear coated. Pack the ends of the shafts by the bearings

I'm another Lucas red and tacky user. Mainly because it's already in the frequently-used 1:1 grease gun.

It definitely doesn't stay on the gears for long. It's really meant more for ball or roller bearings than gears, but with frequent lubrication application it works well.

There is no need for the zerk fitting, just drill a hole and thread in a 3mm, or 4mm, or 5mm grub screw. Then use a needle fitting on a grease gun up against the hole. There is even room in the trans case between the upper and idler gear for a 3mm grub screw so it may get greased as well.

All my scalers play submarine on occasion, so I do use the grease gun to fill, and purge, the axles. Yes this adds a little drag, but it's not so much as to worry about.

What I do worry about is corrosion, so I'm particular to grease the drivetrain after a day of submerged playing. I'll often see the water get forced out the pinion and axle bearings as the axles is packed with fresh grease.
