Default First post, First SCX10.. Wheelbase stretch!

Hello everyone, my name is Wes. I am going to be joining the forum to hopefully learn how to spend my money even faster!

Went to my local RC store and picked up a SCX10 deadbolt for many reasons, it was the cheapest () and i liked the realistic chassis and suspension/drivetrain components.

I've been around RC's for about 20 years, and around 1:1 scale 4x4's for half that. I've built wild Jeeps, and have owned 2. (one mild, one wild)

This is my first crawler, and as such here are my newb stock pics!

Yes, that is an indoor rock garden.. so I don't have to stand in the cold and wind like a wimp!!

Since i am a maniac, and love to be somewhat different i started building this monstrosity, that I really love. Its been such a wild improvement, while being so cheap I am tickled pink!

Stock chassis/electronics/drivetrain.
Aluminum steering, links and a little ingenuity. I have stretched my SCX10 to a 13.5" wheelbase, its 10" and has about 4" of belly clearance, due to the stretch i have relocated the perches front and rear, moved the esc and box, and kept the battery in the back. I then went and bought the tallest, skinniest 2.2's from RC4WD in the X3 compound. And bought some axial beadlocks that I am not a huge fan of, but I am trying a budget style crawler that will stand up to the abuse. I also fixed the stock terrible pinion angle and jumpered the AES5 to the 100% drag brake for those big meats.

Very nice.
I'm new to crawling as well, strangely enough a retired mechanic as well.
I started with a dingo and stretched the wheel base to the 12.3" with a vanquish 3 link pan-hard.
I have to re-clock my rear axle for the vanquish dig unit as well.
I'm looking for something for the wife right now, nice thing there is shes more then happy with completely stock.

Hey billy! Welcome to your next RC addiction! Have a look at the Vaterra Ascender for her maybe. Good looking truck in stock form. It will probably be my next RC purchase. Glad to see you on here, too! And 1ton , welcome to club too! As to the durability of the SCX platform, most of my upgrades on mine have been wants instead of needs. Very durable machine!

Enjoy the addiction take a look @ some 2.2s class comp rig build threads. from the way you cut the fenders for larger wheels and tire clearance. I think you'd like driving a 2.2s comp rig...
