Default Where are you guys putting battery in SCX-10 Rubicon?

I have a SCX-10 Rubicon and the stock placement is in the back. I would like it in the front. How have you guys rigged your batteries in the front and where/how did you put everything else?

Pics would be great!!

Thanks

here are 2 different ways I did saddle packs, better COG and extra runtime...

My "wife's" scx10 has the battery mounted behind the shock towers. Not quite as low cog as the slider mount but really close. My big 650 is running saddle packs.
That said they both tip over on the same obstacles.

Jevne Racing Ultra Plate. Battery goes in the holder ESC & receiver go on top. Not as low COG as saddle packs but you don't have to buy all new batteries.

Floridacrawler, how well does that setup work? You literally have everything up front. Does the tires not hit the battery tray? I also notice that "JR" plate that your Rx box is mounts to allows the servo travel up under it. Do you got links to everything you had to use for this setup?

I don't really care for the saddlebag type setup.

Haha this is great. I had completely forgotten I ran pairs of nimh's in my boats. Playing with my rubicon rtr it seemed to me by relocating the brick to the front -would just make it tip over going downhill easier (Peter paying Paul) but I like the behavior of my cc01 with similar placement - low and in the center -

I love it, it's an awesome easy to install setup. Nothing hits anything and it allows you to remove that crossbrace the servo arm hits. All you need is the ultra plate, it is a direct install to the scx10 chassis with no mods. The "JR" plate you see is the ultra plate. I bought it from RPP. Jevne Racing Ultra SCX10 Battery Plate

Do you, and you others, feel that the front or sideways in front behind shock tower is a better placement over the stock position? When I was crawling the other day with some friends (their battery is up front) they was smoothly crawling up stuff, but my jeep seemed to have a flip-back front wheels bounce side to side effect.

I prefer behind the shock towers, because the center of gravity is lower than having it above the servo.

I use a Howler Customs battery tray. Battery is located behind the shock towers and it also has two electronics trays, nice price also.

Stevec6r, very nice find and price. Where does the ESC and Rx mount on that tray? And can stock Rx box be used?

I mounted the esc and Rx on the left side and my servo winch on the other side. Below is a pick without the servo winch installed at the time. I had to modify the tray because I used a TSS frame and didn't think about the geometry being different but the tray is a simple bolt in using stock SCX frame rails.

Do the tires not hit it once flexed? Also, can I fit my stock Rx box on there ?

Every location has its pros and cons. I haven't/wont ever run the pack on the rear but I have run stock front location, saddle packs, and a homemade setup similar to the Howler Customs.

The stock front mount is great for climbing but is more top heavy so it will tip over a lot easier. The saddle packs offer the lowest center of gravity so they are good for side hilling and general crawling but are not as good for climbing steep hills/rocks. The sideways setup like Jevne and the Howler Customs put weight a little further up towards the front but not quite as low as the saddle packs, so it will climb a little better but be a little more tipsy than saddle packs.

Mounted across the frame in front of the trans with a BPC tray. I run large 5000 packs so that is the best spot for me.

I ran with it above the servo for a few months but now have it across behind the shock towers. I mounted the stock battery plate up there with zip ties and mounted some kydex plates on the sliders to hold electronics. Since then I have ran about 30 packs through The rubi and it crawls better in every situation especially down hill, With the battery all the way up front it would tend to front flip on steep descents. Another bonus of not puting it above the servo is being able to mount the body lower.

A parallel adapter that has whatever connectors that you use. Also its best to use 2 of the same type and size battery packs.

BPC makes a GREAT battery mount. Behind the front shocks between them and the trans.
