Default I keep breaking CVD's!!

I recently bought the Hot Racing CVDs, Alum High Clearance knuckles, and C-Hubs to put on my SCX-10. On both first outings I broke the "bog bone" pin on the CVD's. Im pretty sure I have them installed correctly. I do have alot more steering now, but it looks to me even at full steer the pin is well still inside the cup thus not letting it slip out.

Are Hot Racing CVD's just cheap made? Or is something not right? Im running stock motor, stock gearing, 2s lipo, and also on both runs I broke them and just doing very very mild crawling, im talking not even going up steep stuff, I was just crawling around a creek bed. Also both breaks was only about 5 min into the session.

Is my steering too sharp?

For now I have cut a piece of Piano wire (same diameter as CVD pin) for the repair. I have yet to try them out to see if they hold up. Do you guys think the Piano wire will hold up and not break? Or anything I can order thats the same diameter that I can cut to fit that wont break?

Any of you have this issue before??

Hot racing is cheap parts. The piano wire will hold just fine. To solve issue without spending more $ turn your servo throw down a little. And make sure that the set screw that holds the pin in is lock tited.

Hot racing cvd's are crap. Axial cvd's are crap too. There are only 2 ways to keep shafts in an scx axle. VP vvd's or doing the xr mod. I'd look into vvd's since you just bought the knuckles and C hubs.

got a link to those vvds I would need?

ruinx, these CVD's dont have a set screw for that pin. It just relies on staying in the cup (if you will) and the green sleeve staying slid over it to keep the pin in place.

Maybe these Piano wire pins will hold up, if not I will look into the vvds

hot racing + too much steering angle is your problem.

Another vote for Vanquish VVDs. Spend your money once on quality.

Those vanquish vvds would be a direct drop in replacement for my hot racing ones right? And work with my HR knuckles and c hubs?

Well, you do get what you pay for. I thought that I wouldnt have any problems with the HR CVDs but I guess I was wrong. If my Piano wire pins give out and break then I guess I will be looking to get the VP ones.

I think that my HR knuckles and C-Hubs should hold up though. I guess we will see

I run piano wire in my Axial CVD's. I'm confident the axles themselves will fail before the pins do. I haven't had a problem with either in years.

lol, im fixing to go out and try out the piano wire fix. Maybe we have come up with a new cheaper upgrade, buy Axial (or even HR) axle CVDs and replace the pin with a piece of piano wire and vola!! Still a fraction of the cost of VP vvd's

That is good fix until you get big horsepower and/or hard use on 3s and up.

Gunnar has been selling replacement piano wire pins for years. He's a vendor on here.

The pins will be just fine, snapping off the end of the axle going into the joint is the bigger problem on cheap cvds.

Test = success!! I put her through some pretty rough stuff and they held fine.

Nate, I don't plan to up power or go to 3s lipo so hopefully these will hold up just fine.

Yup.

I broke 2 like this and snapped the bell of one stub. I went down the piano wire road too. They break.
