Default Replacement bearing options

Where is yalls go-to place for bearings for the scx-10? I just ordered a set of transmission bearings for my scx-10 and it came out to about $12 shipped from Fast Eddy bearings. Is there other good bearings out there because it just seems like that was alot for just those few bearings. Where do you guys order and how do u know the size?

Acer and Avid are my usual bearing suppliers, but $12 doesn't seem unreasonable for half a dozen bearings and shipping. you could also check e-Bay for bulk bearings in the sizes you need

bearing sizes should be in the manual or I just measure them if I can't find the size

Ok, I checked Avid out and it looks like they go for $1 each, but then again shipping is another $5 or so. So really about the same as Fast Eddy. Yea I just looked up my manual and seen where it tells the bearing sizes. From either place it looks like I can buy kits or just the specific bearings individually. But I remember back when I had my nitro r/c buggy I would replace most bearings at once. Like for instance all the axle bearings or whatever else. Usually if one of those is bad then the others is too, or at least dang near it!

I prefer rubber sealed unless the bearing is inside a sealed axle or transmission housing

Been using Avid and Acer bearings for years without a problem, I generally buy rubber sealed.

Do you guys generally replace all bearings at once? Or like the whole axle or what do yall do? Like for me I ordered the transmission kit, so that will take care of the whole transmission, but there is still bearings that are in the axles and Diffs and the front C-hubs...

I replace as I notice they start going bad but I've never torn a whole truck apart to do all new bearings.....or if I happen to be rebuilding say a front axle, I'll check bearings as necessary.

Being that I spend 99% of the time in dry terrain, bearings last quite a while.

X2

I usually buy 20 or 30 of every size that my vehicles use , that way I have spares even during late night wrenching sessions. Buy more of wheel bearings because they usually go first.

Good word nate. And which bearings would you say last the longest? Maybe the diff bearings?

Do you guys do anything to your bearings or do you put them in like they are? I ordered some Cow RC Moo Slick and I heard somewhere that you can use them on bearings. So should I pop the rubber seal on my new bearings and give them a shot of Moo Slick or just use them like they come (new)?

Ok I was just checking. I know I have already removed my old bearings and you can very easily take a exacto knife and remove the seals and pop them back in place. Just for giggles I removed the seals on my "bad" bearing and sprayed some WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube all in there and the bearing is free rolling now.

So my question is this, is this bearing still considered worn out? (I was having a decent amount of wobble/play in my spur gear, which is why im replacing bearings in the tranny). Or is once a bearing gets to where it has play, its trash?

I'd toss it myself... did replace bearings fix your spur wobble?

when bearings get sloppy it's usually time to replace them

Still waiting on them to come in the mail. I just went ahead and tore everything down. But im sure the bearings will fix the slop, I can tell the old bearings were loose feeling.

Also doing two rigs at the same time lol, my son blew his transmission in his yesterday (stock plastic gears) so I have him a new set of Hot Racing steel gears on the way and went ahead and got him a new set of bearings too while im at it.

Kinda surprised nobody has mentioned BOCA brand bearings. Very high quality. I run BOCAS in my 300$ fishing reels and they do make a difference in that application so I'd assume they would be great for RC as well. I've robbed bearings out of my fishing reels to keep my rc going.
