Default SCX10 II Vs Asceder Blazer Kit (a comparison as I build)

I recently built the Ascender Blazer kit and now I am building a SCX10 II.

I saw in one of the threads that the body was said to be almost as big as the Blazers,
Um breaking News it is. In the uncut straight out of the box, body cut line there is a 1/4 inch difference in height, the jeep will be shorter.

I didn't use my Blazer body so I have a brand spanking new uncut, unpainted body for comparison.

I look forward to adding more comparisons between the 2 trucks as I build.

Looks a tad narrower, too. Is that the case? Or is it the same width with the big fender flares?

I think the tad shorter will help on the trails.

Thanks for the comparison. Would it be possible to get a pic with the roof rack sitting on top of the Blazer body. The dimensions on the rack look like they'd work well on the blazer. I find most roof racks look wayyy too small on the blazer body.

Yes I can get a pick of the axial roof rack sitting on the Blazer body when I get to that point tomorrow evening. Work got in my way for this past afternoon, and my great schedule I close Wednesday and open Thursdays. Good thing is we close at 9 pm and open at 10 am's except on Sat's when we open earlier by a 1/2 hr.

No worries brotha. I don't see anyone even stocking the parts yet for these so no hurry.

Um, Thanks. That is just 1 sheet of 4' x 8' 3/4"plywood and 2 8 ft 2x4s
plus some old screws I had kicking around in the garage, so total investment of almost $40.00. At times 8 ft of bench just still isn't enough.

OK, here are the requested Roof Rack sitting on a K5 Blazer.

And now how it sits on the jeep Body.

Now a couple of Pics with the Jeep body sitting over the Ascender body for yet another view for size comparison.

Yes the Body is just a tad narrower, but if you went out and laid a tape onto the 2000 Jeep body and then went and measured the 86 K5 Blazer the difference would be about the same in scale.

With the supplied strap that goes on the inside to screw to will help pull the feet flat.

Didn't feel the need to post a shot of every part going together since there is already a bunch of build threads already by some very capable builders that can explain things better than I can.

Enjoyed the build, but feel like somethings for this being a kit were a bit cheap.

1) Why include glue on style wheels with what feels and looks like pretty decent trail tires. and since this is a comparison thread Vaterra did the exact same thing with there Ascender kit.

2) The aluminum links included feel lighter than those provided by Vaterra, time will be the true test on there strength.

3) Battery tray/ servo mount design. This is where I feel that needs some deep re-thinking. The way the servo mounts (will add pictures tonight after work of this) with the servo horn mounting directly above the above the chassis panhard mount.

I had to raise my servo a 1/4 inch so the servo arm could get a full swing both directions. Would like to have seen servo mounted further forward and more solid to the frame like Vaterra's.

More to follow, time to head to the grind stone.

Now after having it done and out running it for the last couple weeks, I really enjoy how the SCX 10 II performs overall. A few little tweaks here and there and it will be better than the Ascender. Still on the fence about the BFG's that it came with, they are better after soaking them in simple green, but the tread pattern doesn't self clean well while driving, so if running through muddy conditions then having to hit rocky climbs other tires out perform them.

I did have to replace the front porch, um, yeah bumper to something that is sucked in a little closer to allow for better approach angles.

Sucked in bumper

Ascender with Tough Armor bumper

Alsoo had to stow the trailer hitch while out on the trails too, it would hit and drag and a time or two even dig in.

In the dry with the BFG's and sucked in bumper it would go and do everything the Ascender would do.

So I am happy to say where ever the Ascender went the SCX 10 II was sure to go (to the tune of Mary had a little lamb)
