Default Crazed SCX10 II Deadbolt (The Loaner)

SO I have a few rigs now..wife says too many, but who is to say.

When I have people over and we decide to play trucks It hurts me a little inside when people randomly thrash one of the rigs that I have put a lot of effort into. Its not that I done want mine driven, but I at least want Video/Pics Ya know?

So that is where this rig comes in.

I want something that people can just play with, And I will only upgrade when things break.

So I decided on the SCX10II Deadbolt.

Went to the local hobby shop and there it was...

Took it home and unboxed.....

There it is...I like the color!

Wife liked it too, That body is now on the BFD Deadbolt, And I have this one.

Soo.. I am going to post this on each of the vehicles involved, But I got a big set of Axial trail markers....

I also happened to have 7 trucks running....Tamiya Prerunner, SCX10 Toyzuki, SCX10II, TRX4 Bronco, SCX10II Deadbolt, GCM Skeleton JK, and the SCX10 BFD Deadbolt.

Lined up and ready to play.... (Tamiya was an afterthought)

So, there are 7 Videos, each one is a stage, I totaled the time after each stage. This was a no practice run it how you brung it type. If I rolled over I started over. Hope you like it, I found it to be interesting.

Stage 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU8fciEh5eA

Stage 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is3HfpxEpZU

Stage 3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C51HLRLKiSo

Stage 4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R94yAs2dtp8

Stage 5

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV9u_pQgGJo

Stage 6

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEroQK8otdo

Stage 7

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp9cG9Dfmeg&t=6s

Bloopers..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fs7x4nBwNeA

So things I figured out.. the scx10II has a bad ESC, the JK struggles, and the SCX10II Deadbolt is pretty good right out of the box.

After Pics...

Fun stuff, thanks for watching.

Great videos. I have the Deadbolt 2, so it was interesting to see how it compared with the others in the group.

I am actually very impressed with what it does out of the box. Down hill is a challenge for it however.

Thanks for the videos! My Deadbolt is a very capable machine like yours. My grandson likes to help me drive it.

Your red pickup sure does well too!

Had a day out in the flowerbeds with my son, decided to do the comparison again, this time it was full runs, Boy runs first then I run. Not really fair to compare my driving times to his as I drive them more often than he does. So I look at it as him comparing the cars then me comparing them. This was reduced from 7 cars to 5, as the first hillclimb proved to be impassable for both. Onlt changes to the vehicles from last time is SSD 8 degree steering on the BFD Deadbolt, and a new Castle Mamba X / Slate 1900 setup on the SCX10II 66 Chevy.

Comparing the trucks to each other for Jacob...
1. SCX10 Toyzuki V1 1:16.8
2. SCX10II 66 Chevy 1:20.2
3. SCX10II Deadbolt 1:27.7
4. TRX4 Bronco 2:01.4
5. SCX10 BFD Deadbolt 2:23.2
My runs...
1. SCX10 Toyzuki V1 1:19.1
2. SCX10II Deadbolt 1:26.5
3. SCX10II 66 Chevy 1:34.0
4. TRX4 Bronco 1:35.0
5. SCX10 BFD Deadbolt 1:54.0

I really should get some loaners. It's hard to resist upgrading them though.

Decided to change the Deadbolt up Just a Little, doing some of the free mods from Harley's video..

Soo..as it has been running, It is a very capable truck on 3s, keeps up with some of my modified vehicles as is.

So I pulled the light bar, and kept the screws...

Now to do the rear shock tower flip..

So you remove the towers...

And slide the crossmember all the way forward...

And put the LH tower on the right, and the RH on the left...

Like so....

I also Put the front shocks on the rear and the rears on the front and used the screws from the light bar to clamp up the lower shock cups..

Back together..

It did increase travel...here is some bench flex...

I had to move the body back up one hole on the body posts as the tires were hitting pretty hard. I'll try to get it back out on the trail soon.

Picked up a new body, As I want to make it look a little more mine...

Funny how a simple body swap can become a little more.

So after removing the sliders! because this body wont fit with them on, I roughed it in for a basic look...

Lots of gap....

Will take some doing, but it will work.

Hmm, TRX4 Bronco wheels/tires look pretty nice..

Noticed something interesting...my RTR had a nice driver tip stick in the driveshaft...

Starlord sez "move over I got this..."

Now to bore you with painting...

Pretty cool..

New scalerfab sliders...but they are too long for a 12" WB

Creating wheelwells to fill that gap..

Luna seems interested...

Back to watching TV..

More to come..

Picked up some cheap universals..

Assembly is nothing special...

Might turn more? We shall see how they hold up.

I mentioned my new scalerfab sliders were too long...I added a weld farther back...

Then cut the end off and bolted them on..

Those should work..

More to come...

I love your loaner!

My Honcho is my personal loaner rig, mostly bone stock. I have noticed that after about 75 miles the front plastic knuckles have some slop. Might be looking at an upgrade soon. Plugging in to watch your vids.

While updating, may as well make it stronger right??

Gonna try these ebay universals, same company that did the driveshafts for the skeleton JK and they haven't broken yet..

Added some weld to my scalerfab sliders, so I could cut them shorter..

More gooder...

More to come..

Links

Locked up track bar as the new one was hitting the diff pretty hard as I am going to run this pretty low...

Not sure why this is sideways..

Working on the dashboard, steering wheel and driver position..

Ended up taking 3/8" out of the column after this pic...

More to come..

I'd have to agree with you crazed, I hate to see someone e tag along and break or trash your trucks. It's all time and money. I've only let a very select few ever drive my trucks and had good outcomes with doing so.

The build is looking good, keep it up. Looks like you have a good amount of drivers waiting to fill rigs. I need to get a few more myself, but have a hard time looking for drivers I like.

So this little lady does not want to sit properly in the bronco...

Notice the surgery on her red side, leg moves up more for a better seating position..

Fits better but the steering column is still too long...

Time for front inner fenders..another donut container from safeway to the rescue...

Rears were done earlier..

Getting closer..

Stickers..

Painted the inner fenders..

Chillin with the BFD Deadbolt...

Lots more droop..

Only a few details left..

Got starlord's coat shortened..

ESC Mount...this body doesn't leave much room...

RTR..

And ready to play.

Is this loaner still loanable? LOL

It's quickly becoming a "don't you dare wreck it!"
