Default Aftermarket tranny gears?

Has anyone heard or seen anything about some after market tranny gears for the 10.3?

Nope, not broken per se... I’m just sick of the slop in the gears. It took me 5 rebuilds to get the clicking stopped and I’m ok with that. What I’m not ok with is the fact my rig can roll an inch front to back and most of that is in the tranny. The ID tolerances in the first stage gears is just too much for me. I’ve pretty much resigned to a vs4-10 / VFD chassis swap...

I'm surprised we haven't seen any yet!

I hoping somebody designs some soon. I've been holding off on buying the SCX10 V3 until this issue can be fixed.

All in all, it’s a great truck. I think it’s a lot of bang for the buck and it does perform pretty good. I know a lot of it is me, in terms of, I’m very particular about my rigs in all my hobbies. Hope we see something soon...

I really don't see much difference between the stock Axial 3 gear and the new one, but a fair amount comparing my Super Shafty Bombproof or Vanquish stock 3 gear. I do see a bit less on my VFD setup, but all are manageable.

I really have never clicked or had any gearing issues on this truck.

I got the first stage gears (both 27t) from kyx , they fit a lot better and the top shaft/gear are 1 piece. Machining is great . By making the top shaft/ gear one piece they were forced to eliminate the stepped shoulder that is present on the factory top shaft. The only issue is they don’t include a spacer to take its place.

I just picked up a 10.3 myself and tore the tranny apart to see what’s going on inside since I am new to this platform. The majority of the slop in the trans is due to the shift dog? In the 2 speed portion. Tighter tolerances would definitely help that or even just a 1 piece design to eliminate the 2 speed option. The layout of the whole setup is a neat idea but there is definitely a lot going on inside these little guys.

Does the lack of the stepped shoulder cause any issues? Does it need some kind of spacer or is it ok to run the kyx gears as is?

Sorry for the late reply, been swamped with work and the holidays, yes you’ll need a spacer on the top shaft between the first gear and the slipper assy
