Got the hood done today... The parts needed: Took the stock hood off: Close up of the hood pins: Drilled out holes and threaded the pin studs in: Hood teamed out to fit pins: Mounted the rear clamps: Mod cost about $5 and is a must if you run a battery up front. So much easier! Last edited by rojo; 10-19-2011 at 04:52 PM. |

I'm really digging your rig. I am in the process of converting to a front mount battery and want to know what batteries you are running. More specifically the dimension and capacity.

| Largest I can fit like it is set up now is 40mm x 40mm x 75mm. The batteries i run are a hair smaller than that. They are cheapo "mystery" lipos (3s) with 1500mah capacity. I am going to eventually swap for something with a little more C- rating as these are slowly starting to go out one by one. Several vendors sell lipos on rcc. I also recommend Hobby King if you want cheaper ones. Just be ready to do some soldering and have plenty of time to wait on shipping if you use them. |

I got the proline shocks installed but feel like the stock springs are a little stiff. Are you using the stock springs or did you get the tuning pack?

The Proline shock tuning kits came in a few days ago. I dropped the primary spring down a rate to blue. You can see the steel gauge is a bit smaller. I also got around to getting the upper shock mount shimmed with a few O-rings. The mounts are 5mm machined balls by Jeepin Doug. Also picked up a set of 2.2 Proline TSL's to get me rolling for a while. I used CI foams in them. These things bite hard. I am really impressed with them. A few shots before I gave it a good shake down this afternoon. A few after I had a chance to run the bugs out of it... Lol Driving impressions: I love the new lockers and universals. Amazing steering. No drivetrain slop. It gives you a ton more control as well as reliability and consistency. I love the new 32p trans gearing with under drive gears. Temps seemed to stay cooler, lots of beef for abuse. I also really am impressed with the shock setup now. Night and day difference from the stock spring rate. No more random suspension unloading anymore, seems a lot more consistent and smooth as well. Judging by my experience today, I wouldn't change a thing on any part I have put on it. |

In all seriousness, I don't care what it looks like near as much as I care how it drives. Building this one with a soul of a comp truck... I am thinking of taking the cage off the back and making some delrin kick braces to the shock mount to clean up the look a bit. Figured it would save some weight and bulk too. You forget how big these things are until you try to get under a ledge or somewhere else tight. Thanks! Last edited by rojo; 10-25-2011 at 05:42 AM.

Updated a few things before the trail comp RCA had yesterday... First, I got DMG to make me a custom set of front shock towers. They are sized for the longer Proline Powerstroke shocks that I use up front. I wasn't happy with them laid back, so I stood them as straight up as possible. It really paid off with a lot more stability and predictability off camber (at the cost of a little travel... But totally with it IMHO). I LOVE the new feel up front now. I also dropped the smaller upper spring down a rate alt all corners as well. New mounts: Comparison to stock: Before relocation: You can see how vertical they now sit. I was playing with the wheelbase in this pic, so they are still angled back a bit... Now they sit almost perfectly verticle (took about a 1/8" of wheelbase out after this pic was taken...). Unbelievable how stiff the front is now as well... it really took a ton of chassis flex out of the front end. This of course changed the way I could access the battery, so I redid the electrics again up front. While I was digging into the wiring, I added a few accessories... In the past I powered the servo with a bec through the receiver. Cheapbatterypacks came out with a nifty harness that bypasses the receiver and sends power straight to the servo. They are cheap, and work great. I got two, one for the front... one for future use out back. Both bec's wired in: Almost ready to go: A Dynamic Concepts 72 blazer body came in the mail yesterday. Stay tuned! Last edited by rojo; 10-30-2011 at 02:35 PM.

That hood mod that you came up with is a great idea! And the shock mounts poking out of the hood is looking killer. Nice job |

The body came out of the box and underwent the knife. Got the hood fitted up and trimmed: Sides trimmed and fitted: Rear end mocked in as well... I'm going to do a diamond plate facia over the stock rear corners. For paint it will be a black and/or white paint job. Simple and clean. |
