Default Aluminum Highland crawlers locked won't stay tight!!!!

Well I thought these would work, but don't. I have the aluminum version with the 4-40 hardware. I did notice that the clamping piece has a spot for the shafts to fit in, but they go the wrong way. I looked back in his thread and saw some guys were lucky enough to get replacements. I have ran felsenfests and rcp with no luck. I also used red locktite with no success. That's with degreasing and a 48 hour cure time. I know there are guys throwing more power or the same I am. Can anyone help me. I finally have the rest of the rig holding together, these lockers keep haunting me though.

Thanks,
Farmer

I know this may sound redundant. On you axle shafts themselves. Are they worn ? I have the Highland Aluminum lockers in my Foff build. I never got the replacement tangs. They stay very tight and I only used the Blue lock tite.

I am also running aluminum with blue loctite, no replacement tangs, and no problems, front or rear. Not sure what to say next though....?.. Sorry farmer.

Dumb question, but are you sure they are engaging far enough into the locker? Have you tried countersinking a small divot where the screw locks it down?

Another thing to check is the condition of the set screw. Set screws have a cup or other shape on the end that digs into the surface it is supposed to keep tight. If the screw has been tightned and loosened multiple times this is most likely worn off and the end of the set screw will look completely flat. It would be a good idea to replace them.

Doesn't seem to me it's worth it for the only advantage it gives over a solid 1 piece spool.. Not if it's got the possibility of loosening. To me anyway, reliability is important.

I also ran the aluminum versions and they both have come loose regardless of what loctite I used. They are both chewed up and worthless now. I have moved on to HR lockers.

Is the slop on the hr spools tolerable? Thanks for the info. I almost bought those first. Now I have have two ring gears drilled out for 4-40 is there enough meat on the hr spools to drill and tap to 4-40?

This is what we have to do on the higher power Ebike drivetrains. If we don't dimple the shaft or just weld them all together they constantly come loose. I say give dimples a shot if you are out of options.

Wish bonus line lockers were still made.

Sorry to hear farmer. Me personally, I don't trust locker that use set screws to keep things in place.
