Replace the solid lockers in the diff housings with the gears that would normally be there. I believe it's the AX-10 gearsets. ~Chip |

I read on another forum that they use these : http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBTA4&P=7 Not sure if they work or not but it seems possible and easy. Google is your friend :P Last edited by ZippoMan; 01-10-2013 at 03:07 PM. |

it's really easy actually but you will need the spider gears and the open diff housing they go in. After that, you just replace the locker with this unit. And I do believe the Exo diff/gears are a direct replacement. |

It's VERY easy. If you want to do both axles, you need two sets of these gears... TowerHobbies.com | Axial Differential Gear Set and one pair of these shafts. TowerHobbies.com | Axial Shaft 3x22 (2) and some of these to go between the housings and side gears. TowerHobbies.com | Axial O-Ring 5x1mm (10) Install those in place of the stock lockers and you will have differentials front and rear. They came installed in the RTR rock racer from Axial. Google the axial RTR rock racer manual... It can be found on the Axial support page. Or the file name is: ax90002-i001-rtr[1].pdf Page 8 Box 2..... |

Would it be best to just have the open diff in the front? Have full traction in the rear??

Yes, front open and rear locked would be perfect. The other thing to do, pack the diff gears with grease. I mean pack as much as you can get in there. At low speeds, the grease will move with the gears and you can still steer the truck. At higher speeds, the grease will semi-lock the diff and help when you need the power to point you straight again. Same theory the short course guys use on their 4x4 trucks. The thicker and heavier the grease, the harder the diff will lock under power. The short course guys use diff oil, but the design of the axial diff makes that a little hard. |

Wow that is wicked fast!! Oh and a question...will the link I gave be a better deal and work? It looks like you get everything for one price. Oh and here is the link to the Scorpion Rock racer which shows how to install the gears. http://docs.axialracing.com/instruct...1-ax10-rtr.pdf Last edited by ZippoMan; 01-10-2013 at 06:29 PM. |

I guess the only difference is that you don't get rubber o-rings just metal washers. |

It may seem wierd but instead of grease i used permatex gasket maker2 in diff's its stiffer than grease, but creates a limited slip effect. Never dries out. and "locks up the diff quick"

I thought gasket maker dried and hardened like silicon. Was just a lot thicker and stickier than silicon. So when you put it on vertical surfaces, it didn't slide down like a silicon would. |

They appear to be the exact same sizes...I will find out. I read on another forum that HPI stuff drops right in. They use the 3x22 shafts and the gears look identical only maybe better...lol. I hope If they don't work it only cost me $5.20USD anyway Now does the silly putty actually work? Sounds interesting. Last edited by ZippoMan; 01-11-2013 at 05:53 PM. |

Anyone else think HPI will work? Please chime in. I do not have these in my possession yet.
