i ran 3s with the sv2 controller and no external bec with no problems.

id say it depends on your servo setup. if stock youl mostly likly have no issues if you have power hungry 7950 you might brown out

from what i understand the ae-2 is the sv2 with a few less programming features.

If you don't run the AE-2 with an external BEC you'll most likely fry it. I installed a BEC on mineand ran it on 3s for months before I sold it. For the cost of a BEC ($20) I wouldn't chance smoking your esc.

Good to know. I was wondering why my wraith was acting funny (glitchy) when I put in a 3s lipo
Running stock ae2 with as3 servo.
So a external bec should solve the problem.

There will be instructions in the package on how to properly connect and hookup a Castle Creations BEC.

You are supposed to plug the BEC into the battery port but on a stock wraith the lights are plugged into the battery port. What do I do?

Use the bec from your ESC to power the receiver and lights and use the castle bec to power the servo directly.
