Default Wraith or SCX10 Rubicon

Ok, dont mean to beat any horse to death, but I am really confused about whether to get a wraith or scx10 rubicon? I can cover either kit or rtr in both, and then I have about 450.00 to spend on upgrades. What do all of you advise? I have a Ridgecrest and love it and that is going to be turned over to my 5 yr old son so we can go on trail runs together. Trail runs would consist of trails and rock crawling, as I want something that can crawl well too. Probably gonna do something this week, so anything you guys can tell me is appreciated. I think I will post this in the SCX10 section as well.

If you are looking for something to run with the Ridgecrest then I would suggest building a kit wraith. I would get a 35 turn motor(or possibly a smidge slower depending on what is in the ridgecrest), a holmes hobbies ESC, and a servo with over 350 oz of torque. This should put you in a good spot to just run it and not really worry about breaking anything. You can always dress it up from there, but at least you would have a good foundation to work from.

I would look for a used wraith here. You can get some good deals on something with a lot of aftermarket parts for a fraction of the cost of buying everything new. I have a wraith and scx10. I prefer using the wraith because it can crawl over so much more but the scx10 is still fun also.

As a person who had both a SCX10 and wraith at the same time...get the scx10. I sold my wraith not long ago. It was the greatest when I first got it. Then I bought my honcho, the wraith just sat from that day on.

I had the same tuff decision to make about a month ago. I decided on the wraith. Now obviously I can't comment on the scx10 because I went with the wraith but I can say I don't regret purchasing the wraith. It is one of if not the best rc vehicles I have ever owned. Plus it performs amazingly right out of the box. Move the battery from the rear to the front and go have a blast. Oh and if you already have electronics laying around I suggest the kit version. It comes with a few upgrades over the rtr.

Don't forget that the wraith will have a lot of the same parts as the Ridgecrest. If your son breaks something you stand the chance of being able to get it patched back together with something from your wraith. Also keeping your tire sizes the same is going to be important if you plan on running all of the same spots.

Agreed on the Wraith. Common parts between it and the Ridge make it a no brainer. You can have a simple tool box with shared parts, cheaper and way convenient. The Wraith is going to be nearly as capable as the Ridge in RTR form, so, your son will not be able to outcrawl you as bad. Go Wraith!
