Default Best suspension setup I've seen!

Although it completely kills the scale look, it's awesome!

Unfortunately I don't really want to pay $1,495.00 dollars for it. I'd probably prefer to build it myself anyway.

He hasn't made a parts list yet, but we can all work together, we can try.
(And it would be wonderful if I could have this thread stickied, so every one can see it )

Heres the link

Parts I know he uses:

•Slash sway bar
•Big bore shocks.
•A lot of Axial upper links

that suspension set up makes it way to tippy and top heavy. you'd want to just lower a wraith, get the right shocks, and tune the crap out of them. too much flex is a bad thing because it causes binding. doing that would cost max $200

True, but if you used actual different shocks then you wouldn't get too, too much flex. I just like the setup, the articulation seems to be for show. 90 degrees of articulation is stupid. Completely unnecessary.

That's an awesome setup if you want to configure it and race it as a monster truck. For crawling/trailing...NFG!!

if it was going to be a shelf queen or a monster ruck then it would be fine. but like johnnysplits said it couldnt trail or crawl at all.

I agree it seems silly, and overkill but he has some sick vid's of this thing doing some crawling.

X2

That is way tooooooo much travel

If you fallow the "PRO's" threads here on RCC
you will find that most of the pro's are limiting their suspension travel

Yes, but (yet again) I think that if you used some shocks in the setup with some with less travel than big bores, then you would be golden.

Still would be a crap setup. That rear setup is useless for anything other than impressing inexperienced YouTubers. It's a harsh reality but true. When most all of us first started crawling we all fell for the same traps like this.

Whether you're going for the scale look of your wraith or the crawling performance, this setup is just a lose/lose scenario. As you said its not so scale and there aren't many if any comp winning cantilever setups.

But hey, no one says you can't do it. Be the first to make a predictable setup and get to some local comps

Well. Since no one likes this idea (here comes the inevitable question ) what is the best suspension for crawling?

I'm using Integy shocks right now BTW.

The suspension is one part, 4" shocks like the Traxxas our Losi with a wide selection of springs. Then you need to tune those to the weight and ride height of your truck. Tires and foams are huge as well. All rocks are different and everyone has a different style of crawling. The best system is the one that is right for your area.

Hmm. I'll look into them. My problem is my shocks, just not enough travel. My tires stick like glue to the rocks around here.

You much travel gets you in trouble. It will cause the torque to put your rig where it shouldn't be. The general rule is a tire's height roughly.

I've checked out a lot of what this guy does on youtube. He's got some cool things, and i'd like to figure it out from an engineering perspective. If nothing else maybe reverse engineer the whole process and then see whats usable for crawling if any, and if nothing else have an understanding of the system to maybe develop a basic version to work better with a crawler.

I can't remember when but this set-up has been discussed before on RCC and it got bashed big time.Don't get suckered in its junk, especially for the price. Do a search and you will see.

All i did with mine was raise stock mounts and used 125mm shocks and i put battery in front and i climb pretty much vertical climbs with ease and sidehill is cake too,but regardless its all about physics...eventually your gonna tip...cool idea though

I love the quotes from the link.

We at Seb's RC Shop along with many Wraith owners knew that we had to improve on the overpriced and underperforming yet so good looking Axial Wraith. We wanted a truck what can do it all:
1. Long suspension travel so it can handle jumps
2. Lots of flex, with best off-camber capability.
3. Extreme vertical climbing ability

Long story short, it wasn't easy to make the truck do it all. We came up with many cool concepts that worked really well in 80% to 90% of the challenges, however it wasn't "perfect" for the lack of a better word. It was about December of 2011 when my friend and customer Chris. S. came up with the concept of what you see here today. Every component on this truck can be bought of the shelf at a hobby shop. Some of the brands used in this truck are: Axial, Traxxas, Tamyia, Dubro, GHH, HPI/HB, STRC, Losi/TLR.

It takes 12 to 13 hours to install the suspension system onto the truck, but let me tell you that everything has proper ball-ends and bushings on all hinge points. Also everything is bolted into place, no zap straps here. The internal cage is reinforced by re-using some of the stock parts as braces. All bottom rod-ends are 4mm (shock is 3mm on the kit) all this resulting in a super tough setup that not only out-performs but keeps on going and going.
