Default What to do first to the Spawn???

I have a new Spawn and have already done a few mods, such as moving the battery and esc to the front and receiver to the rear. Added a set of Hot Racing links and steering linkage, and have a Castle bec ready to install. I've watched Harley's PS build and learned a ton, but I'm wondering what mods you guys consider have to be done right away?

Upgrade the stock plastic steering links, it'll be one of the best investments you can make. The stock plastic ones are flimsy and bend easily when turning.

Look up Harley's guide thread here. Tons more info and advice.

Sounds like you've already done all the "right away" upgrades on your Spawn.

Ok, I must be tired. Read this, then re-read the first post and saw I missed the part about the steering links.

Now you just drive it till you break something, or till you find an area that needs adjustment / improvement.

I do the same thing, just completely miss one or two key details for no reason at all. Just somehow miss them entirely.

Yeah, seems to be a loaded question as to what to do as each guy is different. I was just curious to hear what guys do right away out of the box with a RTR. I've heard anywhere from new servo, stage 1 kit, to shocks, etc.....

Wish I was more familiar with the Spawn edition. I know it's had upgrades such as servo and etc over the previous versions, I just don't know what all has been done and the quality of the parts used.

You should run it for awhile and decide if you want more speed, stability, etc.. There's so many upgrade options to choose from. Steel trans gears, shocks, etc.. Really just depends on what all you plan to do with it.

It has 32P gears now and the servo is supposed to be better than the original but other than that it is still the same Wraith, or so I've read. The esc is a step down from the AE2 though. The driveshafts are supposed to be stronger now too.

Get the hood pin kit and install them in the holes you use to screw the body on. Then you just have to pull out 4 clips to get the body off.

Good idea! I just got my Spawn body for my new build and thought about how old it's going to get taking the screws out to change a pack everytime.

I don't know about the servo either, but my recommendation would be upgraded motor/esc next. I got my poison spyder wraith and changed the links, servo, wheels/tires on day one. Day two I put a MMP and Novak 17.5 in (best decision ever!) It's the most reliable rig I've owned. The only thing I've ever broke is servo horns. I broke 3 the first day and put a traxxas servo saver on and have been rocking for 6 months. I want to upgrade my axles to aluminum but until something breaks I'm just going to leave it alone.

Blue Monkey has one for Wraith hoods.

...and this one for the hinged hood on the Wraith.

I believe some have also used this kit from Traxxas, you would need two kits for mounting a Spawn or other full body.

I used the Blue Monkey kit on my Spawn and couldn't be happier with it.

Steel diff skidplates from BlueMonkeyRC. So much better than aluminum skidplates or no skidplates at all.

Congrats on your new wraith! If you haven't done so already, check on those pin drive hubs. That has been a noted problem area with Axial's IFD wheels. Vanquish SLW hubs is one solution to replace stock plastic.
