| Spawn Kit + Upgrade for father & son
Hi guys. I'm buying Spawn kits for my son(4) & me. Want to start slow speed crawling, with some ability to speed up later if he wants. I'd like him to grow into it & participate, as possible, in the build. Tks to Harley for the great inputs, I hope I did my homework well. Apols for x-post w/ the Newbie forum. - Is it worth holding back on some upgrades (spur; lower links etc) & get a feel on stock parts? Or selling some stock parts? - Anything not needed for a good while / can reasonably get cheaper gear on? (it's racking up to a massive bill) All comments highly appreciated, THANKS! Spawn kit Axial 55t (rebuildable) (& Axial 27t for later) + rebuild kit Castle Creations Sidewinder 3; BEC w/ USB kit Xpert 7701 WP Servo Tactic 3channel Radio System (seems reasonable for 50usd each..) I just did what you're doing to some extent. If was to do it again, I'd just get the spawn RTR (or the older RTR) and replace stuff as you break it with vanquish products. Also, be advised that your kid is going to be a lot tougher on equipment than you think. When my son is crawling, everything hold up just fine. When I let him go to town and just do some general bashing, that's when he'll break stuff.

Thanks oldpunk, as we live in Singapore, I planned a bulk buy to keep shipping costs down. Given your comment will start with the stock parts mainly (though re-gear) & then upgrade progressively as things break. We will stick to crawling initially, planning some rough terrain in the yard! Noted on VP products, given all I've read they seem to justify their cost. How old is your son incidentally and when did you get hims started? Cheers |

My son who's into rc with me just turned 10. This is his 1st real one. He's had a few "toys" over the years but lacked the initial know how at first. After about and hour, he had it down for the most part. We've got to watch out for those accidental, unintentional squeezes of the trigger though. We're only about a month into this adventure. So far.

Yeah I hear you oldpunk. Those toy supermarket RCs are frustrating, break so easily and burning thru AA batteries feels like such a waste. Like him to understand how to actually fix parts when they break. Throttle control is my biggest fear but the only way you learn is by doing. Saw your rig on the other thread looks awesome. |

My point: By the RTR and use it. Learn the flaws and fix them. Read as much as you can and learn from it. upgrade the stuff that breaks to stuff that doesn't break. Smart, right? Maybe... Have fun. (Seriously) |
