Very sneaky Dr. Jones.......

But in reality I plan to run a little bit of a spacer to get the wheelbase a little closer to 12.5" since they sit stock at about 12.3" roughly.

What are your thoughts on how wide the front axle is.....Even with running the
225's. Cant get any skinnier unless you run some SLW NT....

The width of the front is about on par with how most of the top drivers are running on their Bergs. I think VP wheels with 225 offsets will be the ticket.

I'm coming from a Losi. So I had a pretty skinny front, and a skinnier
rear.....found great benefits in running skinny. So was just curious of your
thoughts. I'm defiantly running 225's front/rear. Thanks!

Also...How much weight are you going to try to add to your front wheels?
Plan on running any weight in rear?

I agree, the narrow can be a benefit in places. However after running my Berg out a little wider I don't think I will be desiring that narrow track any time soon.

Also with the more offset wheels like the Losi and Bullys run you have a lot of scrub steer. The width of these axles with a low offset wheel combined with the 8 degree kingpin angle we will see VERY little scrub steer.

Perfect.....Thanks for the Knowledge..
Prob going to hit ya up on the 4pk thread.. That controller is insane.

Also do you plan on running the same pinion front/rear because you can mix your
channels?

I finished up the truck tonight! Everything wired nice and clean

This electronics box is great. I was able to fit my 4PK RX as well as my Castle BEC in there.

I also made a couple changes to the body mounting system. I like to run two single upright posts instead of one front and two rear.

Using some of the pieces that were left over in the kit I came up with this setup. It uses a front style mount along with a couple of the male/female adapters that were in there. I had to trim all the splined sections down a little but it was a simple mod with all kit parts.

Lastly I removed the front chassis tray from the chassis. As you will notice it is used to space out the front shock towers. My fix for this was to use some parts off the shock tree. I am pointing to part #2 HOWEVER I used #1 in the end.

I have it set right at 3" currently. Once I swap out to the Vanquish wheels that will probably increase since the tires will stand up a little more. I also may pick up some new foams.

Harley, you have much time with the Futaba BLS152 yet?

Any noticeable difference to the S9157?

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm a big fan of Futaba and I run BLS451's and 352's in all of my racing kits but the Hitec 7950TH and up all put out more torque at a lower cost.

Any selling points for the BLS152 vs the Hitec's that you can think of, Harley? I can't make up my mind.

Thanks as always! I really appreciate the time you put into your build threads too. I've learned a LOT from them!

Honestly there is a noticeable difference in power and efficency but it isn't huge. The 9157 is still the best bang for the buck.

We have suggested to Futaba that they look into producing some more powerful servos.

I have got a couple emails about either my setup or a setup that I feel is a good option to start with. I have put together these two lists of setups that I would feel confident recommending to someone who is either looking to upgrade or jump into the hobby. The first setup is what I believe to be a setup that will stand with the best of the best. The second setup is something that I would to suggest to someone new. You can go cheaper but not without sacrificing what I would consider reliability and quality to a level I would not feel comfortable suggesting.

These parts can be found the following websites:
www.tcscrawlers.com
www.holmeshobbies.com
www.vanquishproducts.com
www.towerhobbies.com
www.maxamps.com

Top recommendation:
• Futaba 4PK
• Tekin FXR x 2
• Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster Pro Handwound 35t motors
• Castle Creations BEC
• Futaba S9157 or BLS152 Servo
• Hotbodies Rovers (white) or Sedonas
• Vanquish 1” SLW’s with 225 offsets (can substitute Dirty Harrys up front)
• MaxAmps 3s 1100 Lipo

Budget friendly suggestion:
• Futaba 3PMx
• Holmes Hobbies BR-XL ESC
• Punk RC Dig (RC4WD Rocker can be used but will not give you the positive lock the Punk dig will)
• Hobbico CS170 Servo
• Hotbodies Rovers (white) or Sedonas
• Holmes Hobbies 35t TorqueMaster Sport Motors
• MaxAmps 3s 1100 Lipo

What's the wheel weight situation on those VP SLW's? Do you add weight to the fronts? If so, what type of weights do you use?

Thanks!

Yes, I use regular stick on weight in my SLW's. I use about 3-4 oz's on each front wheel roughly. I also run a polycarbonate ring inside my wheels, but I will add more information on that later

The reason I go with SLW's all the way around is simply for style points I like the look of uniform wheels. I know the V4 SLWs are similar to the DH's but that isn't the look I prefer. On my Berg I run V3's all the way around and on this rig I am going to use the SSZ's just because they look so cool!

I will also be running slw's all around. I would like to know more about this ring you speak of?

Im curious if you see an advantage of a HH BR-XL over a single FXR.

Also, I run BWD U-Locks (.75) and Am looking at getting a set of SLWs. I was going to get the .7" but have been trying to decide on those or 1". What is your opinion on the width difference?

I will do a detailed write up on this but here is a pic I had on my iPhone. It is a 2.5" ID x 4" OD x 1/8" ring that sits on the OD of the wheel. I place this on the inside (towards the axle) of the wheel and it is held in place by the wheel weights. It is only used on the fronts.

This ring doesn't allow the tire to roll under while side hilling but still allows for compression when digging on verticals.
