| Dioptric's Axial XR10
So I finally bit the bullet.... (much to the wife's dislike, apparently 3 crawlers is toooooo many) and got myself an XR10, but i did it a little different. Got the all the axle parts on ebay. Some people might be shocked but i managed to get a set of brand new axles for under 130 shipped. The Specs. XR10 axles BJV4 Chassis Chaotic Crawler Ti links (stuck in the mail cause Canada Post is on strike) Axial Comp. shocks with cap mod and limited to 4" Black/front orange/rear springs XR10 wheels (for now) 3.5 oz stickies internal up front+3 VP wieghts nothing in the rear Pro-Line Chisels with memory foam. Brood 45t Dual Tekin FX-R CC Bec Hitec 7950 G Force 800mah 3s batteries on a custom plate Future plans are to order a kit from Hansen Hobbies and shorten the wires for the FX-Rs, BEC, and servo to clean them up. DHII in the front and SLW v2 in the rear. Slowly get the VP goodies as well. I just want to get out there and brea... i mean do some work with this thing. What do you guys think |

Really great start. Have you had the axles apart yet?? Would probably be wise to do the bearing mod to the motor plates till you get the VP goodies. I replaced the stock bearings with 5x10's and still running stock gears. Had the rear apart just yesterday and gears look good as new. Had it bound up pretty bad quite a few times and not a peep from them. Crazy luck i guess. Anyway enjoy the XR. |

Can't find the bearings i want locally, and the postal strike means no shipping. I will be doing to mod as soon as i can get the bearings i need. Until then i will be very careful about driving it.

Looks sick Sam, I know how your feeling with this strike garbage. I'm still praying everynight so I can get my bully in the mail. Are you planning on leaving it white? If so you should match your panels to the PD |

The chassis will be staying white. I think i will be doing white on the panels with silver stripes. | |

Little update. Took it to the LHS today aaaaand it worked really well except the chisels sucked. So i picked up some HB Sedonas and a set of DH IIs for the front. while i was swapping the tires I also cut the rear wheels down to 1 1/16". Also got some stickers on the panels. Sorry about the cell pics but my SLR lens died and this is all i got. Last edited by DioptricStraw; 06-22-2011 at 04:25 AM. |

Nice build! The pics are good, not HD but they are clear. I also have dual Tekin FX-R and I am amazed with all the power and heat they can handle being so small.

I used 6 5x10mm flanged bearings for the motor plates. They are more common than 5x9. I'm sure you could find them at your hobby store. |

| I have the aluminum caps. Ground off the mount loop drilled a hole and put a rod end on. It has the rubber bladders so im not too worried about leaking. Try searching for rod end cap mod

So I painted the panels and borrowed the wife's SLR and snapped a few pictures, its late here so they aren't in the best light but they still show off the paint, i will be getting out to one of my favorite outdoor crawl spots this weekend. So if the weather is nice i'll have better pictures. More pictures this weekend, and maybe some video too! Hope this postal strike ends soon. |
