| 4xFord's "Super Villian" Team Y-Town build
The goal of this car is to beat Krawlfreak in a 2.2 comp. So, if Jeremy works for MI6 then I'm going the Super Villian route. This is a Zorin Industries production. And the secret weapon. Here is the lid I painted for it, unfortunately I'm sure I will end up trimming off the sweet grill and tailgate stickers I put on it. |

Great start. The paint job is nice. I saw an old toyota yesterday with that same paint scheme but red base color and white stripes. |

So I got some new foams in from Crawler Innovations for this rig. They utilize the closed cell inner foams, which are super badass. These foams are waterproof (Scale yea!), super firm, and shapeable into what fits your needs. In the front I will be running the 5.0 Closed cell inner, medium outer, and soft outer tuning ring. I don't know about all you poor liberal state dwellers, but my local napa (1/4 mile down the road) still sells lead strips! Now with all that weight I needed to make some room in the closed cell inner. I used a trick that Eddie tought me years ago, the sanding drum on a dremel is the perfect depth and width for the lead. Here is the foam channeled to fit the weights. More to come soon, Im finally doing another build thread as opposed to my usual "built" threads. |

Wow that looks like a lot of weight.. Is that all you are using for weight or will you still be using the knuckle weights laying there?

Well there is some progress to be had tonight. I am rebuilding the axles. First thing I noticed was the wear on the front RC4WD spool and to a lesser extent the rest of them. They have held up to a ton of abuse and surely still will, but they are getting sharper. The front spool is the worst and a new one is replacing it and most likely the gear above it. Here is a new one for comparison. However, I forgot how much I love opening the gearboxes on this car. Thanks again William (RCBros) for the killer mill work on these gears. I also got a box in from Holmes Hobbies, a pair of 15t Crawlmasters. Except that the rear motor is a little special. |

Well I am going a more conventional route and using a rear axle for a rear axle. This is nice because I can now run the sweet Seld-M-Bend rear axles I got at Nats. So I also got VP axle tops for the rebuild. I really thought they would have added more weight. Rear plastic. Rear aluminum. Front plastic. Front aluminum. Only .8 added in the rear and .7 added in the front. Not much to complain about. Since I have the strenth of the aluminum upper axle cases, I decided to shave the plastic lowers cases a lot. Here is the weight saved. Rear stock. Rear shaved. Front stock. Front shaved. Pretty cool. Shaved .3 oz. So I only added a little over an oz (1.2 approx) to the car by going to the aluminum toppers. That is a good strength vs. weight exchange in my book. Here are some pics that show how much I really shaved the lowers. Front. Rear. |

Nice work on the axles Shelby! I've been wondering what the weight differences actually came out to...so thanks |
