Chaotic Switch Bodiless chassis Tech Thread

This chassis started off as a revision to our Chaotic Special. We love the special but knew we wanted to go carbon and figured
why stop there. We didn't hold back with this chassis. Many many hours have gone into the design and testing of this chassis
to ensure that is will be a top performer. The skid is a unique one piece design thus eliminating the normal bottom mounting
screws and preventing hang ups. As usual all of the spacer and standoffs are drilled and tapped to make installation
as simple as possible. We kept with the delrin spacers to keep the weight down and the strength up.

Includes:
2 - 1/16" Carbon Side plates
2 - 1/16" Carbon Side Cab Plates (reversible)
Custom 1mm thick one piece CNC machined Skid
7 - 35mm Delrin Standoffs - Drilled and tapped
10 Delrin Cab Spacers
Hardware
Hardware and spacers for Upper links
Panels (.040 sides & .020 hood and roof)

Weights:
Chassis w/ Aluminum Hardware: 2.15oz or 62g
Chassis w/ Black Oxide Hardware: 2.45oz or 70g
Upper Link spacers and hardware
Aluminum: 3g
Black Oxide: 6g
Panels: .45oz or 14g

with titanium links for all of the Chaotic Special Chassis and more...

Will the xr10 "special" chassis links fit this new chassis? Or will new links also be needed?

tried to order, says it's out of stock

but since this is a tech thread, i think the first, most obvious question is, what length shocks are these intended for?

So much want! One of the best looking chassis yet! I'm running your special LW now but may have to upgrade to this! Great job!

It was designed to use a 3.5" or 3.75" shock.

You can use a 4" but would need to do some internal limiting.
I believe I already know of 1 person that plans to run a 4" shock.
So we will see how he likes it.

I plan on tryin just about every shock & length I can with this chassis. I think that the 3.5" with a soft spring & mid weight oil will prove best overall but we shall see.

Are all the bodiless by CC not designed to work with the stock springs of 4"? Are they all 3.5 or 3.75?

How would u limit it?

All of our chassis can use 4" shocks....You would need to put a spacer (ex: aluminum spacer or fuel tubing) inside the shock under the piston so it cant extend to the max. A fully extended 4" shock will put your ground clearance much too high.

3.5" and 3.75" shocks just reduce or eliminate the need for internal spacers and allow for more range of motion.

I ran 3.5" Big Bores on the front of my Special and 3.75" Big bores on the rear. But Im guessing with this new set up I will be going with the 3.75" all around!!

Any recommendations on shocks that fit best with CC bodliless? Brand/make/size?

The L, XL, XXL is the length..

If i remember correctly the cap mod adds 1/4" if using the small 3mm traxxas rod end.

Measurements with cap mod:
Traxxas Big bore #2660 L= 3 3/4"
Traxxas Big bore #2661 XL=4"
Traxxas Big bore #2662 XXL=4 1/4"

I'd suggest starting off with L or Xl's all around

These aren't the only possible shocks...but are very smooth.
I'll try to work up some part numbers and other shock options.

i think the part numbers are
L big bore part #2660
XL BB Part #2661
XXL BB Part #2662

The Xl's are hard to find.Well up here in canada.

i got the traxxas 4962, it is for the maxx trucks, comes with 8 shocks, for only marginally more than 4 shocks, so i just split em with a friend... tower says they're 4-1/8 uncompressed, i dont mind limiting them internally.

Try the SCX shocks. I've been running them on my "special" chassis for 6 months and they are great.

Do you have a length and part # on the scx shocks?
