Define 'a pain to work on' ...... If you mean will things break and need to be fixed then yes.

Other then that if your not into Comps it may not be something worth it to you. If you're more of the speed and smash'em drive'em type then the Yeti's and Wraiths are probably better for ya in my opinion.

Xr10 is a true crawler and no scale realism. I thought about getting one before i bought my scx10 and wraith. The scx10 gets my slow RC fix outta my system so i didnt end up getting a xr10. Havent even built Wraith kit yet, still sitting NIB lol, and playing with scx10. Put some more money into scx10 to make it a better crawler is what id do if i were you. Id say xr10 should be easy to work on compared to wraith because it doesnt have a cage to fight with like wraith does, and most xr10 parts are accessible on the axles.

Ebay is the only place to find the kit unless you find one in the classifieds here. To answer your question, I don't do comps but love that style of crawling. There are a bunch of rocks behind the shop I work at so after work I hit the rocks for an hour or so. I had a Losi nightcrawler but wanted something better so I just picked up an XR10 kit on ebay. If you haven't built a kit I would just get a rolling chassis (XR10 kit is a little more difficult than a Wraith or SCX10. If scale or trailing is more your thing I would get a SCX10 or Wraith. If I could only have 1 rc then it would be my Wraith with a Roc412 and MMP. Love that setup. But I am addicted and I have a SCX10, 2 Wraiths, and now an XR10 (and a brushless Revo, 1/10 Summit, 1/16 Summit, Slash Ultimate...I have a problem lol). I can't speak for what breaks on an XR10 yet but my SCX10 and Wraiths aren't hard to work on.

there are from time too time some xr10`s on the classified pages here on rcc,,
if you just check the for sale tread every day for a week or two I bet you find a roller or a rtr xr10..

I love it I've got a ton of axials I love the xr because all of the weight is so low it just sticks and the cool factor of controlling a spider takes the cake for me

You can do a budget build with a Novak M2 and a Spektrum DX3. I got a deal on a new kit on Ebay and it just happened to come with a Novak M2 Dig and a Spektrum DX3. This is a total newb's opinion but you really need to go with two escs and a decent transmitter with mixing. I am getting ready to switch to two HH minis and a Futaba FPK. The Novak is garbage. You could also go with a better single esc and a punk dig but you would be wasting your $. To answer your other questions I don't do comps either but love crawling. They are not easy to work on like a SCX10 but not hard like a Wraith. Just do your research and know that you might need about $150-200 to put into a new kit to make it able to survive free climbing.

I'd say to save yourself the trouble of a dead thing. Build a bully or berg based rig. I'm an XR owner and I love mine but I would not do it again and would have quit if I wasn't so heavily invested.

As far as general enthusiast rigs go, i reckon theyre alright to work on. There are plenty of aftermarket parts, plenty of threads on the forum about them.

XR10 was my first, and i managed to upspec it.and work on it myself...and im pretty useless!!

Default Buying a xr10

I love my XR10. It was stock and did all upgrades myself. Really wanted to build one of thes extreme looking units. Never had any crawler prior so first build.
