Lets Talk About Gearing

As a gearhead myself, an avid 1:1 4x4 enthusiast and also an RC 4x4 hobbyist, I'm curious about ideas for gearing the yeti XL to it's full potential.


I would like to keep this thread as an informative list of options for Yeti XL owners so please keep the excess chatting and arguments down to a minimum.

What gearing are you running right now and why?


Currently my YXL has a 11T Pinion gear. I've noticed a major improvement in throttle control during rock crawling and control during acceleration into jumps. I prefer this lower gear set up that will also help keep the motor from overheating and allow me to run it longer on hot summer days.

That's awesome to hear! I've recently ordered a 11t & 20t 56t spur 2 speed transmission and a castle Creations fan to cool down some hot runs...I can't wait to see both sides of this BeAsT!! Anyone have any recommendations for street tires ??? Oh are ceramic Boca bearing a upgrade compared to the stock 1515 bearings?

umm.... are you sure those are for the XL ?? they must be a secret source because the only ones that I found were for the wraith ..tell me your right kuz more teath more mesh more relentless beatings the XL will endure !!!

I think you mean the underdrive gear set for wraith which will also fit the "normal" 380 yeti but not the xl.

Sjonnie82, you are correct, I ordered the wrong part number... insert foot in mouth. I'll have to return those when they arrive and wait for the release of the XL Underdrive gears. Don't go and order parts while half asleep late at night. I really wish the companies who sell parts would allow you to only see parts compatible for a specific vehicle.

Either way, the 11T Pinion gear allows for much better throttle control and in turn a lot more fun on my part.
