Default Motor Pinion Issues

Out bashing today and broke a tooth off the pinion gear. Second one that has done this. I use RRP hardened pinions and I have been in this game long enough I know the mesh was right. Exactly 19 runs on a new gear since the last one broke. Any ideas? Checked gear mesh when I got home before disassembly and it was great except for the broken tooth. It broke flush at the root or bottom just like the last one.

Does it show excessive wear on the other teeth? When I was using an RRP pinion I noticed it was wearing a lot quicker than the stock axial one. Put a new 15T axial pinion in it and haven't had any issues

It shows wear but nothing I would call excessive.

That is a bummer I wonder if it is coming from all the play in the transmison gears and transfer all the shock back to the pinion gear. I notice there is quite a lot of play with the pins locating the gears. I will be trying the BHB mod with bigger pins to take out some of the play

Check if the spur is wobbling, if it is, just change the slipper plate, chances are the slipper plate has rubbed against the backstop notch on the slipper drive gear shaft and the plate is worn, if there is no wobble then it is a much bigger issue.

That sucks Steve. After your Trans check I use the Tekno on everything with no problems yet.
Though for 1/5 I use the RCM on my Lightweight 1/5 and Big Bertha Losi Mini with no issues. Both those are pushing 8S one at 5000watts and the other near 8000. Maybe try either one for the third time is a charm. If I had issues witht the Tekno on 1/8 I would use thrm for sure.
