Default Need opinions- Mamba Max Pro vs RX8

Loving my Yeti! biggest downfall about it for me and what I want my first upgrade to be is fixing the damn esc. Motor temps were at 120 today, esc was at 160. I've thermaled it twice and although I usually love castle products, this esc is not cut out for this truck.

I have three options, buy an esc fan (cheapest, but limited long term) , a rx8 or just a more capable castle esc (with a built in fan)

A rx8 and a mmp will let me run a pro 4 Hd in the future. so is the rx8 worth the higher price? Which will work best with my stock motor and which will work best with a pro4 down the road? Thanks!

It's capable of running 6s, it's a much more powerful esc than the rebranded sidewinder that comes stock. Plus has that built in fan.

Anyone running a pro4 setup, what are your motor and esc temps like?

The MMP has a built in BEC. Is it suitable for a high torque servo like a hitec 7950? Don't want to muddy the waters, but if it would save buying and installing a ln external BEC, might be nice

I run a 7955 so that would be sweet, doesn't the rx8 also have one?

Again, don't want to derail the thread from pros and cons of both ESCs, but the MMP has a BEC that can be adjusted via Castle Link. The RX8 has an internal BEC but my understanding is its a constant 6v and can't be changed. Most hitec servos like the 4.8-6.0v range anyway.

since you're getting a Castle Link if you're going to get an MMP anyways, check this out --

Traxxas Funny Car Castle Creations ET-3S ESC Speed Control

just reflash with the MMP firmware to make it a legit MMP (instructions in the interwebz), using 2 and ordered my 3rd just this morning. best option if you want top of the line for less $$.

So why isn't anyone considering the sidewinder 8th? Has an 8 amp bec non sensored like the factory, waterproof and only like 85 bux off eBay.

Genius! Does it have a sensor port though?

Edit: does have a sensor port! Now my only question is that as far as I can tell it is still limited by traxxas to 3s, which is technically fine for my use, but I'm wondering if anything else is limited that a regular mmp can do that this cannot?

I upgraded my mmp to a RX8 about a year ago and my thermaling issue went away. Much more powerful esc, IMO.

With Tekins hotwire you can bump up the bec to 7.4v. On the Rx8 gen2.

Just for anyone following, I ordered one of the eBay finds.. Couldn't pass up the price, and considering I already have a castle link, seems like a good fit. Thanks all for the feedback, and for everyone else feel free to chime in with your thoughts in the event it can help anyone else!

When I want a crawler ESC that is waterproof I use the MMP and waterproof it. For everything else I use RX8's.

Can't beat the ease of modifying settings, and the operation of a Tekin RX8. Much more bang for the buck.

flashing the ESC with the legit MMP is easy, just follow the step by step on the link you posted from the traxxas forum. i already flashed three ET-3Ss without any problems. let me know if i can help.

Not sure anybody posted it yet but he MMP is roughly an 80amp ESC. Don't let the capability of 6S confuse you. When you go up in volts and down in kv it becomes more efficient and require less amps. This is why 4x4SC is so taxing on electronics. High kv and low voltage means very high amps.

I did the same...
I just saw this thread last night then looked and jumped on that same deal likely.
(59.99 for a brand new ET-3S.)
Can't wait to play with this!
