Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

Here is a pic of mine with the Traxxas Latrax wheels, and mini rival tires, the added width, and traction helped tremendously, the hex hole on my wheels are tapped out to m4,so I can use my RC4WD wideners when my body shows up. It looks good with the TT body, but the tires look wide when looking underneath, but performance, over looks 1st!That's the servo saver I use for the mg90 servo, they have more than enough power,no need to spend alot on servos, and to ease up any binding in the steering rack, just back the screw out on the rack assembly, you'll feel it loosen up!

Those are 1.55 that I have reduced in size to about 3.6 tall

Me likey!

I considered that when i couldn't find a scale looking tire short enough.
But there's that "what if i screw em up and they look like crap" side of me that has always kept me from cut'n up good tires.

Yeah, I've done enough tires over the years that I can usually even fix it if I screw up. Here's a pic of them next to the 4.05 pbx a/t.

Has anyone found metal diffs yet? Someone said possibly traxxas mini ones work but ??

Traxxas LaTrax gears DO NOT work. They are a different size, different pitch, etc.

I've got metal lockers coming very soon though.

Ok guys, I have read this entire thread and I am still having a hard time deciding if this setup would be a decent option. I know there was talk of motor diameter and this is on the smaller side, but after looking at the mamba micro x it looks to be the same diameter. Any input on a budget brushless system would be much appreciated. https://www.amainhobbies.com/hobbywi...030010/p279160

I think that motor may be a little anemic. I ran a 24mm motor and it did fine. Too many kV for me so I put the brushed back in and ordered a 24mm low kV to try. A 28mm motor will fit but be aware the longer can ones may cause problems.

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

Ok, that's what I thought. I'm on the hunt for a decent brushless combo for less than $50. If I can't find anything I guess I'll just go with the mamba.

That looks like it might fit the bill. Waterproof, 2-3s capable, and the price is right.

If you go that route, buy direct from Hobbywing, should be a little bit cheaper, and free shipping. Use HWGIFT5 for $5 off a $50 order.

Awesome , how does it compare to the castle system? I see it's slightly higher higher kv.

Also I can't seem to find that combo on the hw page.

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

its not sold as a combo on HW's site, just put em both in your cart.

I guess the woods are a bit too rough for the Yeti Jr. The servos in my SCX10ii and Bomber haven't had any issues with the cold temperatures.

I have both the TT Jr and Yeti Jr and my yeti'steering was so tight it wouldn't center even with a Spektrum SPMS401 servo installed. I tried polishing the ball ends and it helped a little. Then slightly sandedthe too and bottom of the rack where it picots on the two pins. This also helpedalotbit stillnot enough. Once I replaced all the links with Associated turnbuckles, the steering was finally freed up.
Now my TT was completely different. It had zero issues with tight steering and in fact, I'm still running the stock servo in it.

Which pinions work on the hobbywing motors?
2.3 traxxas?
How many teeth should I gear it at?

Brake Weight 02-08-2017 10:28 AM

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

I installed a 2445 3000kV sensorless motor. It has a 2.3m shaft and the Losi Mini pinions have a smaller hole than the stock pinion. The stock pinion fit the 3000kV motor and it netted nearly stock speeds. So I dug around in my box of gears and found a 22tooth that fit. I had to file down the set screw so that it's clear the motor plate.

It has good low speed and a fair amount of speed now. I'm happy with it.

Yes,

The first prototypes came in, but were very far off dimensionally from what they needed to be. I had them re-run them with the tweaks, and those were supposed to show up Friday, but didn't, USPS shows maybe today for delivery.

I will probably have something to share tomorrow if these are dimensionally correct.

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

Made some new trail with the Yeti Jr in mind- bigger berms! A lot less flipping. Moving the battery foward helped too.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Z7dwLsCw6Z0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

My front ring and pinion is starting to slip under heave load, maybe a shim will help. I need to tear it open and check.

I need to get these installed in the yeti and get some testing done to make sure there are no problems. I expect to start a pre-order thread very soon for these. Pricing will be discussed in the upcoming thread in the vendor's section, so please do not ask in this thread.

Are there going to be axles to accompany that beauty?

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

Has anyone replaced the upper rear link with 2 links with balls on the end? I know it kinda acts as a natural sway bar, but I don't like the way when the axle rolls that it bends the tabs on the chassis where the link mounts. I'd like to replace all of the rear links with turnbuckles, I just wondered if anyone know of any that fit.

Testing has been going well. There are some slight tweaks to the dimensions to be made, but it looks like I will be starting a Pre-Order thread very soon for these. I'll link to that thread here when I get it posted.

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

Lower links aren't exactly the first thing these things need. Where is the 2 piece front bulkhead to make pinion mesh less of a guess? Where are the metal diffs and axles/shafts? We need those things, not metal trading arms... though they are nice

Brake Weight 03-22-2017 11:27 AM

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

That's the easiest thing to make.

Brandon 03-22-2017 03:30 PM

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

Major problem with solid lower links, you wont get any articulation out of the rear. Currently the flex in the nylon links allow for the axle to articulate while also acting as a sway bar. You make that rigid and the only thing the rear axle can do is travel up/down.

Careful buying those.

Seems like these are fading away. I run mine nearly daily for 10-15m but it's just because it's so small I leave it on the chest freezer in my garage. So it's right there for a quick spin around the driveway. All the hype before the reaease and the novelty is quickly waning.

Unless there is a local track that likes to run mini's the novelty of a mini version of a capable truck is always going to be a novelty. I've got a couple 1/14 Tacon Thrillers that I literally leave in the car in case one of the big cars breaks and I don't want to end my session so quick. LOL...that's about all they are good for.

The fact they came out right before Axial lost the ability to keep anything in stock has a lot to do with it also. Hard to get excited about a truck when no one has been able to buy one for months.
