where did you get the CF steering rack? BTW, i understand the premise of the build, we all dont have the luxury or even the skills to do fabrication. i even hate making my own links. thanks VP for the threaded Ti links!! look great by the way. i am doing something similar, but i got a roller for CHEAP and stripped it and am going to sell off what i dont need/want. |
Re: From the "tub up" Steering link is Hot Racing EZ adjust, YET48G01 Aluminum Graphite Steering Bellcrank. I have had one in my rtr and YXL for about a year and I'm very happy with them. |

Re: From the "tub up" 1 Attachment(s) I'll be going with the SSD 2 speed conversion. ;-) http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/attac...1&d=1500399323 |
Re: From the "tub up" Did you consider going to stainless fasteners for everything? I was looking at the KNK set but I'm hesitant, as the softer metal is more prone to stripping, but the factory fasteners quickly rust and look like crap if you don't coat them with protectant. |

Re: From the "tub up" Great thread and very inspiring build, I might have a go at it myself. What brand aluminum parts are you using? SSD? STRC? Vanquish? Does it matter, or is the quality of the different brands similar? |
Re: From the "tub up" Thanks  It's definitely fun! Ultimately it will be expensive but I'm spreading the cost out over time, hence it will be a long process. After researching I'm trying to use what I feel to be the best parts available. Of course there are lots of opinions on what's best. I have lots of HR upgrades on my Yeti rtr and YXL rtr, ironically my YXL kit is still stock :lmao: HR has been reliable except for YXL front diff case. Honestly, I'm all over the place with brands. So far GPM, HR, and Axial. I plan on SSD 2 speed conversion, haven't decided yet on Vanquish or SSD trailing arms and upper links, also looking at STRC for certain parts ( due to availability). Link mounts will be Axial or Vanquish. Still struggling with choice of motor mount.....Axial, Vanquish, or GPM. |
Re: From the "tub up" Nice build and good idea"thumbsup". I use SSD trailing arms and vanquish TI upper links. I have chosen the ssd version cause they use rod ends, this defines a break point on my rig which could be fixed cheap and fast 8) (always have some spare with me:mrgreen:). cause on hugh impacts (bad landings with tumbles after jumps in my case - still learning and experimenting) something has to give.:flipoff: before i had upgraded my kit plastic upper links with the axial link plates. not worth the money, they broke after a light slide hit on a wall at slow speed at the ball point on the axle(not covered by the plates:roll:). as i see u also use the hr adj. steering, how hard is it on yours to adjust it. cause mine is very hard to turn have to use a small plier. |
Re: From the "tub up" Thanks! I've learned a lot from some of your threads. I've decided I'll go with Vanquish TI upper links. I'm curious about Vanquish trailing arms "Proprietary rebuildable rod end joint". Anyone out there whose using them please let me know how they are working out. I also need to use small pliers to adjust HR steering but I can live with it. ;-) |
Re: From the "tub up" I run the VP trailing arms with no issues. I've just opened up the ends to clean em out and check on things. Used some dry lube before I reassembled them |
Re: From the "tub up" 1 Attachment(s) Still waiting on that slow boat from China for cases and other parts. But did get the SSD 2 speed conversion. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/attac...1&d=1501199862 |
Re: From the "tub up" 1 Attachment(s) Making a little progress, got my Axial motor mount today that I paid $60 for from Tower Hobbies, doing some research I find that it's now $29.99. So I immediately sent it back and re purchased it for 1/2 the price. "thumbsup" Looking forward to install next week. I need some help from you SSD 2 speed conversion owners.... I only got one servo mount in my delivery and it's obviously plastic ( they advertise Aluminum), I emailed SSD today hoping this will be taken care of. Can anyone give me advice regarding mounting the servo for the SSD conversion? http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/attac...1&d=1501367345 Thanks |
Re: From the "tub up" i think u will need part tree AX31183 Shifter Shift Components this includes servo mount standard and mini and the shifter Just download the instructions from axial website the axial version is not much difference to the ssd ;-) |
Re: From the "tub up" 1 Attachment(s) Thanks Brother! Was hoping the solution was in my " leftovers" I'm hoping SSD will provide me with Aluminum mounts as advertised. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/attac...1&d=1501372410 |

Re: From the "tub up" 1 Attachment(s) Bought this from Boom Racing but it's not compatible with SSD 2 speed conversion. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/attac...1&d=1501544323 |
Re: From the "tub up" All alloy replacements i found don't Support directly the 2 speed. I think u have to drill a hole so the shifts arm get's throu the housing Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5 mit Tapatalk |
Re: From the "tub up" 1 Attachment(s) SSD 2 speed conversion installed, a little concerned though. I installed it a in a stock Yeti case while waiting for the HR, and the shift action was very smooth. It's hitching and catching a bit in the HR. Some threads I've read say this will "break in" after awhile. Waiting for spur gear cover, then after that will probably be a long wait saving $$ for motor/ESC. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/attac...1&d=1501812648 |
Re: From the "tub up" All that bling.. it makes my wallet scared! |
Re: From the "tub up" Don't you think the car will be too heavy with all those (very good looking) aluminium parts? A heavier vehicle means more force when you crash and hence a larger risk of things breaking. Which is why you have aluminium in the first place I guess, to avoid breakages... My point is that there has to be an optimum aluminium - plastic ratio, that keeps weight low while still beefing up critical components. Will you aim for that sweet spot, wherever it is, or just go metal all the way? |

As a reference, I did a lot of upgrades on my rtr and it's holding up very well. |
Re: From the "tub up" 1 Attachment(s) Hmmm.... As much as I wanted to go with Vanquish I've decided to give the HR cnc aluminum/carbon fiber graphite a try. If anyone out there has these let me know what you think. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/attac...1&d=1502241459 |

Re: From the "tub up" 1 Attachment(s) So what the heck....it's gonna be a month or two before I can get my motor/ esc combo  So it's time to bust out the paint, do some helmets, detailing,etc..... Probably will rob my motor/esc budget to get doodads, thingamajigs, and whatnots. |
Re: From the "tub up" It's coming together nicely. Have you weighed it yet? |
Re: From the "tub up" I now what mine weights  so i assume this will be a little heavier than mine (more shiny alloy part 8) ) so i guess round 6 kg 11-12 lbs depending on battery size |
Re: From the "tub up" It's sitting at about 5 & 1/2 lbs. right now. Motor/esc will add about 12 & 1/2 oz. , I most likely will go with plastic wheels. I haven't decided yet between aluminum or CG panels. I've seen really nice CG panels in the past but can't seem to track them down. If anyone can point me in the right direction regarding panels I would appreciate it. Wheels, tires, roll cage, panels, and remaining parts will definitely bring it up to the double digit weight. |
Re: From the "tub up" As u can See I'm using alloy pannels. They are from amf racing. Got them from rpphobby. Re: From the "tub up" 1 Attachment(s) 8)Having a little fun temporarily throwing stuff together. Currie antirock sway bar, Axial sway bar clamp and 4 link mount plus some green cone washers are on the way. Once again motor/esc gonna have to wait a bit longer  http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/attac...1&d=1503097444 |
