I've kept a budget of what I have spent on crawling, or "into my truck." What has gone into the truck however does not mean it is still being used by the truck. Like other tires, wheels, batteries that I've broken or blown up, and parts I've gone through.

I'm in the $1700's ... but it's been well worth it. I have double or more into other projects that have not been nearly as worthwhile as far as time vs money have gone.

I first bought a non-assembled TLT RTR kit from TCS over a year ago, and spent roughly $700.

After I fried the tekin rebel 2 back in january. I bought a rooster crawler/motor combo $110, some losi claws $50, proline plastic beadlocks $50, spektrum dx2.0 $170, built a tube chassis for it $40, and upgraded the servo $50.

So thats $1170 give or take, over a year and four months.

And I still want to get some aluminum beadlocks with memory foams, and upgrade the knuckles/axle c's.

Normally I wouldn't post to something like this because it really shouldn't matter. I am sure you could use an RTR and do well if you can drive.

That being said - I am poor like most college students. I work two jobs have bills, rent, real Jeep to pay on, wife, dog, beer, and so on.

When I got bit by the crawler plague (notice it isn't a bug, lol) I knew that what I wanted was only the best of everything. That desire started over three months ago. I have had to piece it together as I can go and as I am allowed by my "partner", lol. I have a checklist that I drew up a while back of everything I want for my crawler.

What I want/need is $1963.00! So far I have about half of it. So I will not be done for a few more months. But I am glad that I did not buy an RTR to just get it going. Sure I have RCP aluminum goodies, a VF Dig that has been in a box for a month, and even a Scorpion that is a roller, but it is getting there. Makes me feel good at least to have bought it all the way I want it.

Wow, seems like I am justifying to myself. Oh well. Funny thing is that I have been wanting thousands of dollars for Jeep stuff over the years, but the crawler is the only thing I make sure i get parts for. I guess my crawler in the end could have been the lift I never got for the Jeep.

Such is life.

RC is funny that way. I think that parts are cheaper and therefore easier to rationalize (and harder to track the spending on). I've really wanted to build a 1:1 Comanche, and could have gotten a good start with the money I've spent on R/C in the last few years.

that is true, rc parts add up quick, in the end it seems alot for a "toy" but it really isn't.b with the comanche ot would be just that only a start, with the rc its finished ready for hours of enjoyment!!

I probably have about $13-1400 into each of my comp rigs, and about $500 into the scaler, but its so much cheaper than my 1:1 its not even funny. The front axles and u joints in my 1:1 were over $1500 alone!
The best part about crawling is that you dont break alot of parts and if you do its cheap to repair. All i have broken in 2 years of nearly weekly use is ballends, steering linkage, one cvd, one axle, and a few driveshafts. Under $50 worth of parts total

Just spent about $600 on my super to upgrade it to a 4 channel stick radio and dual ESC's. The total I have into my super is probably about $1800.
