Default Just want to know how much you guys have spent on your rigs

I have spent 350 bucks on my AX-10, and it's totally stock with most basic radio and ESC from WK. And I see a 5955 whatever servo is like 120 bucks along, and the ESCs and BEC and Motors. If I am not mistaken, to be competitive at all, a rig should cost about 800 to 1K eh? Darn.

I am looking into putting 2 stock WK ESC and 2 cheap lathe motors and 2 servos to simulate high end components. The price just go exponential when you buy better than the good ones.

But, really, how much have you spend?

I don't keep track but less than a set of nice 1:1 wheels and tires for you truck. Or a good fishing boat. Or a nice set of golf clubs. Much less than a gambling, drug or alcohol problem. Getting my drift?

I'm into my ax for about 13-1400! Granted around here there isn't many crawlers so I"m basically doing research here and trying some new things and doing all the r&d for around here and every one here learns from my mistakes or things I have learnt in the process! It sucks because it costs me so much but then a guy can come along copy my design for a fraction of the cost because he didn't have to go through all the testing to figure out what works... but if you want the best then you need to be willing to experiment and try things. I read alot here and soon I'll be making my comp crawler which I plan on spending at least 1k More of that will be on things proven to work and I won't have so much r&d to do! Some things will be copyed over from my existing truck and some will be all original! I do agree this is much cheaper then any drug, alcohol, sports or any other habbit! I love my crawler in scale and 1:1. Best hobby EVER! Most fun per dollar you'll find any where! Only thing that sucks is for the price I have into my ax I could have finished building my HPD60 for my 1:1 rig I'm building lol! Oh well this is fun in the mean time well my truck is down!

It is not necessary to spend that much to be competitive at all, Rubbanecks roommate showed up at the last comp and did pretty darn good with a stock RTR... Yes RTR Axial AND it was his first comp too! Bender has never been what most would call a "Big Baller" and he has a very proven track record, He has won a National championship running a big chunky Pede trany, a heavy under powered stick pack flowing through Tamiya connectors and steered with a weak (by todays standards) servo... Granted Brad (Bender) is a fantastic machinist and designer and has built some sweet stuff out of leftovers from old rigs and some aluminum plate... So buy something you can afford, build it and drive it as much as you can!!! Practice will make you a better competitor than that new set of shocks or that super duper crawler motor or whatever else is newer and better. Just my opinion...

Oh yeah, I have spent WAY too much on my comp rigs and I still suck!
